What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I'd read a lot of comments like this about the 3rd Generations and ended up buying a 2015 for the (relative) simplicity. Whole family has a stable of Toyotas, all the model before a redesign.2010 Corolla, 2015 Tacoma, 2017 Camry. Everyone is happy.

 

I’m in the same boat. Had a ‘16 with lots of issues. Traded it for a’17. Had it for 14 months and traded it in. Have had a ‘10 since then and have liked it so much more. It’s peppier and stays in the gear it should be in. Just picked up a ‘98 in June and liking it as a project truck. Both will outlast any turd Gen.

 

Anyone tell me what the best option for fixing my cam tabs is? Should I get the total chaos cam tab gussets or is there a more simple fix? I have 3 tabs that are flattened and can't get a proper alignment with them. Im afraid if I try to bend them back up they might snap off at this point.

The reason I’m always broke

 

All new idler pulleys and TENSIONER. Caps for difficulty. Cleaned alternator. Now I can rebuild the stock pulleys for when these go out in another 100k. Happy g1raffe
PS The towing package alt is bigger and requires the fan & shroud be pulled for removal.-

 

replaced my old cracked and faded headlight with new headlights and fogs this evening.

 

What a day. On my way to work my brake pad locked or some shit. Then on my way to pick up my tools the engine shutoff and I realized my battery was dead. After waiting a spell i fired it up and headed to my shop. Once there I realized the alternator was toast. Ended up Replacing rotors and pads, alternator and battery. I still made it to work at 11am. As a bonus my hard to get Tungsgram h7 low beam went out. I am heading outside with some blue tape and a tape measure to adjust the backup headlight bulb I have but does not have the same beam pattern. At least i did not get a ticket when getting pulled over for speeding. I told officer my story and pointed at all the empty boxes in my cab.. I think he had been there before.

In my simplistic mind, bending the tabs back straight and welding a bead behind them is the simplest, quickest and cheapest. The next stronger, more time consuming and more money option would be the total chaos. Third option, price and time goes up, would be the marlin crawler braces. Bend your tabs straight and instal. This is what I have done after I bent mine. The fitment wasn’t the best, took a little bit of work and small pieces of metal I cut as filler to weld up. Your last option, which I found after I installed my MC kit, which I probably would have done, and still might, is the jdfab LCA pivot kit. I’d post a link, but my computer skills lack. It’s the most expensive, and time consuming, but it fixes a ton of the problems our Tacoma’s face in the front end.

 

Honestly, just get the TC Cam tabs.....you won't regret it.

Well the jdfab is out of my price range but the Marlin Crawler is a couple bucks cheaper then the TC and looks like its a lot stronger. Thanks for the advice!

 

Just turned 220k on my ‘05 Prerunner.

 

Had the diff and tranny fluids changed to redline after ticking over 100k. Seemed quieter/smoother shifting on the drive home. The dog didn’t recognize me.

 

If you look at the left truck (left of the picture, right side of the driveway ), it looks like the headlights don't match....kinda like one 3rd gen and one 2nd gen .... . But of course after a quick second, you realize what's happening.
