if you're riding for cardio the added rolling resistance is a pro, not a con

 

I 100% support that argument, but this is my anti-cardio bike... the one I ride when I want to ride to the store/bar/wherever without drowning in my own sweat.

 

I cannot imagine having a bike like that

The High Roller is on the rear at the moment, but I've been meaning to replace it for months. I'll get something semi-slick--not sure exactly what yet. The front is a 20" wheel with a Cult/Vans tire (BMX tire with a tread like the sole of Vans shoes) on it, because why not I guess?

The smaller front wheel is because I installed a cargo fork, designed to carry loads over the front wheel while keeping the center of gravity low. This is the fork: https://crustbikes.com/collections/forks/products/clydesdale-cargo-fork

If you're mostly riding gravel, pavement, or smooth singletrack, the Maxxis Ikon is also a nice 26" tire. I have a on an old rigid single-speed MTB that I use for quick rides on the trails around town here. It's light and fast and fast tire, but it does get sketchy if the trails are too wet or loose.

I had Duratracs on my old Tacoma. My experience was pretty mixed overall. They wore like iron, had 40k miles and still a lot of tread left. Very impressive in certain conditions. General off road, deep snow, nasty trails in MT and WY, they did a hell of a job for a not quite MT tire. They also got louder and louder, until they just seemed to howl even at 35-40 mph driving in Billings. 70 on the highway got pretty annoying. The snow/ice traction on the road was pretty bad sometimes.

I would probably go a different route now. Falken Wildpeak AT3w, one of the Cooper AT3 variants, probably something like that.

 

I've never seen a cargo fork but that seems handy as hell for bike beer runs

 

DD casing, cushcore, and 37 psi?!? I think I need to see some videos of you riding cause it sounds like you charge hard!

 

I don’t know much about MTB tires but 37 sounds closer to a Tacoma pressure than a pedal bike pressure.

 

37psi? If you saw my BMI it makes sense

I hear you. I've been holding out on the L and after changing the stem and making a bunch of adjustments I can ride without killing my back. Have you seen the Cannondale REI offers now? It's $900~ for an XL frame 1x10 with an OK Suntour fork and CO locations actually have them in stock now and then.

I've been hitting Phillip S Miller park and Bayou Gulch park. They're probably too far south for it to be worth the trip for you...



How are options up north? I've been looking at places in Longmont because it might be a better lifestyle fit

Pondering while drinking at Launch Pad Brewery in Aurora. Where do people go fishing around here? I bought a kayak a few weeks ago and still trying to figure out a place to go. Went up to Lake Dillon first, no luck and I didn’t know how to fish that. Then Aurora Reservoir. Again not a bite. I was thinking of Quincy Reservoir for down here and then maybe Grand Lake or something else in the mountains.
