    This has happened twice in my 2021 Taco 4x4 V6 going up the longest hill on the trips, towing a small camper trailer with just my wife and I in the truck, it gets up to about 3500 to 3900 rpm (at the most). The camper trailer was empty of water, and has a little bit of camping gear, the propane tank, battery, etc, so it's maybe 2500 lbs weight. The truck itself didn't have a lot of cargo. So, my wife and I smelled a distinct smoky odor in the cab for a little while going up the hills (twice this happened). The temp guage never budged, so no overheating. I stopped at the top of the hill and checked under the hood and it looked okay. It definitely was a smoky smell. not a gassy smell. So It may or may not be a loose manifold? Any ideas or experience with this? It's still way under warranty. I'm going to have the Toyota dealer tech look at it. Thanks.

    How many miles are on your truck?

    I’m betting your cats are just “breaking in”.
    When your engine is under load and at high(er) RPM, it’s not unusual to smell an odor.
    Especially on new engines. You’re heating the cats up more than usual in this condition.
    It’s ok, they were made to get hot.

    Since it’s under warranty, you might as well have it looked at.
    But I’m still going to bet, they say it’s ok and normal.

    look up videos of smoking Tacoma on incline. There’sa bunch. After like 30/35 degrees the oil pools in back of motor and causes it to smoke. Least what I’ve read of it

    ^^^This^^^ same thing happened to me. You might want to check if there is anything stuck under the truck that can burn like pieces of brush or a tumbleweed you ran over, when the pipes run hotter that can cause smoke too. But don’t worry too much about the other replies regarding oil smoking on steep inclines, that only happens on very steep inclines and only comes out the exhaust pipe, so it may not get into your vents and cab like smoke from the cats or your engine could. Besides, pulling a 2500 lb trailer on a 30% incline at only 3500rpm’s?? :notsure: :rofl:

    Oh yeah, it's Friday!:bananadance::cheers:

    Only smoke i've been noticing lately is they claim its from the forest fires out west. Every morning it stinks like burning wood.

    minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
    Well, especially UP the hill. Recommend to install oil catch can. It works in my case.
