Rubbing tires in the past, future problems?

Hey guys,
I had an '06 SR5 tacoma with a 3" RevTek lift and when my tires (285/75/16 BFG All-Terrains on a 12x16 rim) were at full lock they would rub on the sub frame on the back of the fender. Well I have an '11 TRD Offroad Tacoma now and I'm wondering if I'll have the same problem. I've got stock size studded tires on now, otherwise I'd be able to answer this question for myself. Any ideas on what I'll be expecting come late May?

 

Why are you running a tire that is 11.22 inches wide on a 12" wheel? What is your back space on these?

There's no difference in suspension/frame between 06 and 11. If you rubbed in your '06, you will on the 11.

I'd suggest some 8 or 9" wide rims with 4.5" backspacing to run 285's.

 

I apologize guys. I just checked the specs online and I thought they were 16x12 but in reality they're a 16x10 with a -25mm offset. I also have 2" bolt on spacers.

On my '06 they would rub at full lock in reverse but not in drive. Also anytime I hit any sort of bump in the road if my wheel was turned about 1/2 way they would pretty much "bark" at me. Kind of a neat sound, but I think I'm going to have to replace the tires sooner than I expected, the outside tread is starting to wear because of it.

Any suggestions on a lift? I know that would fix my problem. My current lift is a 3" RevTek that's pretty much just a big hockey puck shoved under the spring. Good think about that is if I get a lift that's new springs and/or A-arms I don't have to toss the 3" spacer, correct?

 

If you ditch the 2" wheel spacers, that will cut down on the rubbing. The -25 offset with the 10" wheels is 4.5" backspacing, which is ideal for running 285's with a lift. Having the spacers on there pushed the wheels out 2" futher, causing them to have a wider path when turning, leading to rubbing.

If you get new springs you DO have to remove the spacer.

Stacking lifts is a big no-no. Your UCA's and ball joints can't handle much more than 3" of total suspension lift without a drop bracket.
