No doubt you would have more time invested. Thing that turned me away from the tundra rack was it raises the steering pivot and will create bump steer. It also reduces steering angle. And I need all of the steering angle I can get on tight trails. However, if all you do is crawl it will likely work just fine.

Long travel trucks with the factory spindle have negligible change in bump steer. It’s stock length trucks that it affects more

Do you need a second pump for the hydro assist?

I’m trying to process a build that goes with swing steer to remove the potentially weak steering rack and keeps the single most failure prone suspension component in the stock spindles. The Solo and AMR kits were built around the stock steering mounts and were later converted to using a tundra rack so I don’t think they’re any different from your stock spindles as far as steering mounts.

@Arcticelf ran the tundra rack before building his kit.

They offer the same Howe TC pump JDfab uses.
As far as price you are looking at 3200 for the kit the pump and the steering gearbox. Where’s the tundra setup is about 1k from @Basikbiker

I noticed that as a replacement for your stock steering pump, but I'm not familiar with how hydro assist works and if you can tie it into your steering box or if it needs its own. I was just asking because that jumps the price up however much.

I have close to 4k into my slide rack setup with the new OEM rack. Unfortunately, the rack has started dumping oil and my belief is its from mud getting in on the drivers side. I love the way the truck handles and I am absolutely not knocking the slide rack. Just don't believe its going to work in my situation unless there is a way to boot the rack.

Ya, you rust belt/mud people get all the special problems. All my JDfab stuff has been perfect for the SoCal deserts.

To answer your question, no you do not. The steering box has extra ports to connect to the ram. At least that's how it is typically done. Cant say I've ever seen a double pump setup.

Look at shock boots - someone I talked to about the same thing for my truck had used them I believe.

I have and I just don't see how it is possible considering the clevis mounts bottom out on the rack at full lock. If you have pictures of boots on the slide rack I would absolutely love to see them.

iirc the qms steering had a big drawback like it didn't work with a/c or 4wd or something like that

I was wondering about this! I will not give up my AC. So if thats the case, im back looking at the tundra rack. Unless someone comes up with something for boots on the factory rack with JD's slide rack.

Is there any way to limit the steering a fraction of an inch so you can add the boot without the clevis mounts bottoming out on it? Would be a worthwhile trade-off if that's possible.

You would have to limit it over 1". Not sure what that would equate to at the tire but I bet its lots

Do you have any better pics of the rack? I don't know what it looks like up close and am having a hard time picturing it in my head.

You have to cut 1” off the DS flange for the boot because the clevis bottoms on the rack. Yes there is a seal there, problem is the teeth come out beyond the seal and pull dirt into the pinion and seals
