If you want to pull the trigger on one of the in transit 4Runners why not try and see if a dealer will write up the sales order and take a deposit on the one you want? Make sure the deposit is refundable if they change the terms and that you get everything in writing. That way either they sell you the vehicle for what's on the sales order or you can walk and no harm done, but you have the vehicle reserved for you.

I second this. Get it in writing, put a deposit down, and get a receipt for your deposit. Don't be like me, and have to resort to threatening a dealer with a lawyer because they thought they could get away with keeping my deposit after they took my $1000 and never ordered me a truck (fuck you again, Twin Cities Toyota).

Was not an option locally. Dealers were willing to put your name down on a waiting list to be notified when vehicle arrived; but would not write a contract because market demand and supply shortages was driving the price up daily. I probably could have driven to AZ where the supply/demand was less severe; but didn't feel like going through the hassle of buying in one state and then having to go to the Ca DMV to re-register.

I believe you are correct in that it varies by area based on local market conditions. Wouldn't hurt the OP to make a couple of calls and ask. Worst they could say is no.

If you're looking for fuel efficiency the 4Runner isn't it. I get better MPG in my Tacoma typically. Although I'm guessing you meant you already had a fuel efficient vehicle.

After having multiple people ask to borrow my truck or help them move, the 4Runner becomes more and more appealing as the days go by. But unfortunately, I still need a truck.

If you need a truck, get the Tacoma. If not, the 4Runner is still a good SUV.

I bought an Access Cab because it can't fit more than 2 adults comfortably, and that means I don't have to worry about loaning it to my sister so she can cart around her herd, or cart them around myself.

So guess what I'm doing this October? Road tripping with 2 other adults to Yellowstone. I did warn them though, whichever sucker has to sit in the back seat, doesn't get to whinge because I fucking told them it would suck beforehand.

I would love a Tundra, but it’s just not practical. It’s more truck than I need and I need decent gas mileage at least. They’re great looking trucks though. And I also don’t trust my wife in one

I am leaning towards the 4RUNNER for now. And I will get another Tacoma eventually. Thanks for the input.

Apart from not wanting to let people drive/borrow/ride in my truck, my other consideration for not buying a 4R was the hauling. There are certain things you just don't put inside of a vehicle. Dead animals, animal shit, other rotting things. Things I haul on the regular around the farm for my uncle. hose out the bed, make the cousins (way younger, god damn zoomers) scrub out the gore, but something that a tarp just isn't going to keep out of a 4R.

We have a '21 Tacoma and a '21 $runner TRD Pro that were both purchased this year. We didn't have any issues with mark up whatsoever. Have them email the info to you and you have it in writing what they are going to charge you, the 4runner is definitely a more comfortable ride in my opinion. Seats are better, visibility is better, smoother ride. I still like my tacoma don't get me wrong but I would rather drive the 4runner any day of the week.

Honestly I can tell you after getting rid of my tundra.... my tundra averaged about 14-15mpg and the wife's '21 TRD PRO 4Runner averages about 17-18. It's not much of a difference that the Tundra was a great ride. We liked it a lot, I got rid of it tho because I was able to trade it in for more than I paid for it and pick a Tacoma OR 4x4 up for a ridiculously good deal so I figured why not. Honestly, I regret getting rid of the tundra.

Agreed. The main reason for switching is the extra leg room in the back of the 4 runner as well as the extra cargo space. My wife has a rav 4 hybrid so we have one fuel efficient vehicle. I suspect the 4 runner will be slightly less MPG than my Tacoma.

I've not done a direct comparison but I know ours gets a bit worse. But that being said, my longest trip I take is typically 6 hours. I can still make it to the same fill up points at nearly the same amount left on the fuel gauge so it's close enough.

How about a Ram 1500? Probably too close in comparison to a Tundra. The Ram probably gets better MPGs, and should have a more compliant ride.

Wait a couple of months until you see what the 2022 Tundra has to offer, I am going to bet the fuel economy will be as good or better than the Tacoma and definitely better than the 4 runner.....and they are going to change the 4 runner in a couple of years so if your ok with that and don't need the truck bed go with the 4 runner. If you don't need the truck bed and don't need the body on frame off road capability, the Highlander is another option.

Good trucks I’m sure, and much more affordable, but I’ve just always been partial to Yotas. Maybe I should be more open to other options.

Good point. I’m not crazy about the front end on the ‘22, but I do like the engine and transmission configuration. As well as the upgraded interior. We drove some highlanders, but we do some camping and hiking and such in some places that are probably too much for the Highlander.
