Exactly. The filters have an anti drain valve built in that holds the oil inside the filter. This actually delivers a quick boost of oil once the engine is started.

Subaru uses an inverted spin-on as well, no issues.

Toyota's 4.0L does as well! It was the main reason I did this mod, because I missed the simplicity of the Oil Change on my 07 4runner

Actually the reason for this is to use a superior quality filter, not everyone is relocating to the engine bay. Plus it's just much more convenient to spin on a filter...maybe that's actually the main reason...mine is filter quality though. Yes the cup is more difficult but that's not my reason at all.

I can see your point regarding relocating as not all filters have the backflow valves. And I too don't see how engine bay relocation wouldn't be much messier when changing the filter. I'm not a fan of that type even when factory installed

I've bought and about to install the regular style that just converts to a normal filter style but not relocating it. My only reason being that with only 7k on the mobile one filter it was cracked on the top plastic. Not a cheap filter yet it failed. Older styles had metal end caps and orings, now mobile one just has plastic caps and they will crack meaning the oil isn't being filtered. A regular style filter won't have these problems. Also I will be able to use a filter with a larger element. plus plus plus for me

My Toyota Land Cruiser came from factory with oil filter already inverted like this, not to mention that the oil filter is _huge_ LOL:

I think you need a bigger pan! Or, drain the oil directly into a jug. I hate trying to move and pick a full-to-the-brim oil pan.

Damn, 5 bills for the relocation. I really like it but that seems steep.
After wheels/tires, rack and canopy I may have to wait until next year.

you know what! That just makes so much darn sense. I think I’ll try and drain right into the bottle next time. Pouring out that drain pan made a mess. Dunno why I didn’t think of that!

oh, I see now. A Fumoto type valve that I have on all my vehicles. I LOVE them.

I thought your comment pertained to the inverted oil relocater. Based on what you did and how well you did it I’m going to do the same. Makes changing the oil SO EASY and now that I’m turning 60 I love easy. Also, this truck is going to outlive me and I’m hoping that I will be doing 20+ of them. Thanks!!!

You are assuming they engineer these trucks solely on performance and quality with no concern for cost? I don’t think so. They design for function quality and cost which may not necessarily lead to an optimal design.

Is there a hole in the inverted adapter to connect a small tube to in order to drain out any oil that escapes when removing the inverted filter? How do you manage not having oil all over the place?

check my video above. The oil drains down the tube once u crack open the filter and loosen it.

no problem. Take your time with the AN fittings. It seems this is where the leaks may occur. Good luck with your setup!

    Hi Rick,

I am going to install the Baxter this weekend. I see you used 90 degree fittings down Below what did you use directly under the filter? I have straights but that doesn’t seem like it will work. 90’s?
