Maximum the stock suspension can handle is 3" of lift. Anything more your CV boots will get destroyed!

It's not really the offset but the backspacing. two different sized wheels can have the same offset but wildly different backspaces. You ideally want a 4.5" or less offset for a 285.

You need to move the lower cams to maximize caster pushing the wheel forward then use your SPC to bring it into spec

 

Just get a CMC done, it’s really no big deal. I’m sure there are literally dozens if not hundreds of shops in Colorado that can do it for you. Then you can run whatever wheels and tires and not have to worry about rubbing. A lift won’t fix rub if you plan to off-road it anyways.

 

that is what I have read. with it done correctly, there is no worry. I was just seeing if there was a way around it.

 

Yes, very practical and true. rather have a lift and badass wheels and tires mobbing off road then just full stock, personal preferences I suppose. Just thought perhaps I could get away without doing a CMC.

 

To be clear he wasn't saying keep it stock. 255/80/17 is a full 33" tire but because of its narrower width doesn't have a tendency to rub like a 285+ does

 

A 255 would look silly on a 10” wheel and would not be ideal for off-roading in aired down situations with a higher probability of throwing a bead.

At the end of the day a 10” wheel is not ideal add in a -24 offset and it’s less ideal.

OP will have to get creative.

 

Totally agree on the wheels. A 10" wheel is huge on a Tacoma

I have 285/75/17 with 3 inch lift. Deciding on some SCS wheels. I really want the -38 offset to get a wider aggressive stance. A lot of ppl say stick to the -10 offset. What is y’all take on this?

 

Are the wheels 0 offset? My observation here is that 285/75R16 on 16x8 wheels with 4.5BS and 0 offset seem to rarely rub.

 

I castered forward with my SPCs and didnt have to bmc.

 

Now that I have my 2/1" Lift, I'm looking forward to adding 255 33" Pizza Cutters down the road. No rubbing, no spacers, no cutting, no problem. No brainer!

 

Yes, zero off-set. The safe way to go. The tire goes right to the edge of the wheel well and looks perfect.

 

-38 is going to require a cmc. I had 16x8 0’s and didn’t rub and just went to a set of 16x8 -20 and would have rubbed had I not done a cmc. The further out you go the more stuff that needs to be trimmed.
