The design of the slide rack is superior to the tundra rack because they did improve geometry, they did make it so you could push your lower arms way forward without interference with your coilovers. Its simply lacking in the seal department in my honest opinion. If we could all stop talking about the stuff that doesnt matter, we might be able to join forces and come up with a solution for everybody. IDC if you run desert or woods. The DS on the rack is a problem that needs a solution.

How much is an autozone rack - I just got a 1st gen rack w/ inner tie rods for $550 online at my local dealer - you could sell the inners and have a spare on trips where you thought you’d blow one.

Apparently the dumber fan boys are more vocal since it pops up a lot.

Edit: $757 oem vs $450 autozone - too bad it’s a smidge more of a difference than first gens.

I would agree. Each has its merits...if the crossmember layout was different the tundra rack would have more placement options but due to its significantly larger size and the front diff mounting points it really only fits in one location unfortunately.

A bigger problem to address is the upper arm mounting configuration...the active angle thats built in is absolutely a downfall in every single way pertaining to performance suspension setups, it throws the tire into the firewall, valving is affected ,overall shock packaging and a stupid giant bolt u have to wrestle.

By relocating the upper arm to a horizontal position it remedies all of those issues. And it saves you from having to push your lower arms forward which you will start running into the issue of your tire hitting your headlight at bump. There is only so much u can do in a wheel well....and if people are interested in fixing that upper arm geometry stuff a good friend of mine Mitch Fries @mitchmadeinc on instagram is working on a upper shock arm mount replacement.

As well as deleting all the A arms all together and putting beams on...which solves everything but 4wd

You’re not convincing anyone man. Tundra racks work.

Not running boots in the desert doesn’t make racks blow in 5k miles so it does matter.

I absolutely never said it doesn’t work. But the ONLY thing it improves is strength. That’s it. The slide rack was a turn on because not only did it strengthen it also improved other things.

Cheapest right now at autozone is $434 with inner tie rods on them. OEM is just n the 700 range theses days.
When I did my slide rack I bought a new OEM rack for 450 shipped then sold off the inner tie rods for 200 bucks. Even though my original rack was fine I wanted to start new again. I kept the old rack to be able to use as a spare. Gonna rebuild one day for the hell of it. Rebuild kits are about 130 from Toyota.

Haven't ran boots on my rack since I put it in a few years ago now...mud, snow, lots of desert and some Pismo trips and rolled my truck.....rack works great lol.

However I had a customer with a leak out of the box in the control valve...theres a seal in there thats not normally replaced(doesn't come in a seal kit) that requires me to machine off a sweged on bearing retainer, pull the bearing, replace the seal and make a new chromoly retainer and tig weld back on. (Which all racks i do from now on ill be doing this to). But other than that they're pretty tough suckers

Yes I realize I'm a lil biased since I sell the racks. But hey if you think a different setup is better than your application or whatever thats great!! There's some badass setups out there...the best out there is the swing steer that Quixotic makes Kevin has made a very nice kit for these trucks but it is bulletproof. Downside....cost.

    My version is cheaper.

Having options is a wonderful thing

Yea Scott did it...frenched a bronco frame on aparantly they line up really well.

But if you want like big boy stuff...39s, 4.0s and 20+" of travel that just eats....equal length beams is the way to go

Before you say centermount......significantly more expensive and you have to move the engine back which u have to make a new firewall and tunnel and crossmembers.....I know people are willing to do alot of work....but.....thats ALOTTTT of work...more than most realize

Getting your rack to last longer than 5k miles would be a big improvement. You need the lowers pushed forward for firewall clearance or caster on your truck?

Was throwing that out there for 4x4, but yeah beams make big things look small without all the work of more extensive modding - I don’t think anyone on here in the debate is linked besides you so centermount is like tits on a bull anyway lol.

Maybe it was a fluke and my rack was just destined to die early. That does happen. But I want everything pushed forward for both caster and firewall clearance. I am on 37’s so I need all the help I can get for clearances.

    Whole lotta stuff
You guys are making me want to add a tundra rack to my list of things to upgrade to in the next few years.

I’m sitting on pins and needles waiting for shocks to get here for my front kit :ballchain:

I’ve been wanting to upgrade to something and finally asked Travis this morning to be added to his list. It’ll be my bday present to myself. Errr, I mean from my 9 month old son.

Can you run Kevin's swing set and keep 4wd?

Yes...but you might lose your AC but I think he changed the design to clear the compressor now

I emailed him earlier today to see what he says. I'm genuinely curious about his setup.

I just had a buddy send me the CAD Screen shots of the kit with his Jarm kit installed. It looks like it should clear everything but will take a crap load of work to fit it.
