Help diagnose engine noise on 2.4 L 2RZ-FE

    Mine makes the same noise, usually at idle when hot or after a hot restart is when it's louder. I honestly think it's just valves, had a mechanic listen and that's what he said too. She still runs strong, send it!

    Poorly painted hood, glasspack/muffler, toolbox on rear portion of bed, El cheapo radio n speakers.
    Yeah, mine's making a similar loud noise. Prodded around with my long breaker bar and listened... Can't find the source of the noise. It sounds like it's coming from the front driver side of the motor, right at the bottom of the head and near the intake manifold. Friends say that it's not a rod knock and not to worry about it.

    I had a similar noise, very tricky to pinpoint. It was the spring on the scissor gear. It looks like a large C clip, it was broken and the teeth were not under tension which allowed slop/lash. (The scissor gear is on the cam shaft near the head / timing chain area)
