    Yup.

if you’ve had a MT before, definitely get the MT

a couple small tweaks can make it even better.

if you get the AT, you’ll quickly be wishing you would have got the MT. That’s what I did..

I have owned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gen Manuals, from a shifting perspective the 3rd is hands down the smoothest.

It's a lazy clumsy truck, not a snappy nimble WRX. Get an auto and don't look back.

for you, who have done nothing to fix the lazy & clumsy... which i agree with regarding the stock truck. i had the option of selling mine new after feeling this way, or keeping it and fixing the issues. i made the right decision, and for me it's much more fun to drive than any of my previous cars subarus included. as many drivers around me have found out, it's shockingly nimble and light on its feet if you know how to use it. but like i mentioned, i had to work for it.

Buying new then "fixing it" is not something I was looking forward on doing, at least not with this truck. I'd rather keep the warranty in tact instead of turning it in to a fast nimble "sports car". I've got two manual sports cars in my stable and love them, but in this truck I'd rather relax and let it do it's job. But I agree, to each his own!

God damn the first page of this thread was just doom and gloom.

This is the 4th Toyota truck I've owned. 85 DLX 4banger with a 5speed, 91 V6 5 speed, 00 V6 5 speed, and now this 21 V6 6 speed. Every one of them had a tall as fuck first gear. People act like that's some shocking thing, but it's been part and parcel of the Pickup/Hilux/Tacoma experience for almost 50 years.

Anyone who whines about this truck accelerating slowly is probably trying to lug it along at 1500 rpm and then expecting it to fucking launch like a big block V8. Guys, learn your trucks. It has peak torque at like 4600 RPM. It doesn't even really begin to build power until close to 3000 RPM. You wanna accelerate, you gotta be in the right gear at the right RPM.

I have an absolute blast in my 21 Sport. Driving it puts a stupid grin on my face. It's just fun. I haven't done the accumulator delete. I wasn't satisfied with the explanation of how it works, so I'm loathe to change it until I understand what I'm removing. Shifting doesn't feel inconsistent to me, at all.

Test drive a manual, maybe ask around on here if someone will let you try theirs out if you can't find a dealer that has one.

I disagree with that statement sir.

My truck with the stiff Sport suspension drives amazing. It handles better than the BMW E 43 that I drove.

I love throwing my truck around the corners.

I think I would need to ask someone who has one. No manuals to test drive less than 800mi away. I'm in MI and need to go to NY to drive one. Lol.

I’m just going to say this…. It’s like pizza or sex…. Even when it’s meh, it’s still great. Especially if your other option is an auto-trans.

i get it, i didn't plan to turn my Tacoma into a sports car, and i didn't. i had a deposit on a Focus RS after my last subie and r32 before that. the truck was numb and all, but i loved something about it. i found what it does well with driving and decided to iron out all the slop and enhance everything deficient. so, it is its own thing. more fun to drive than any road legal vehicle I've ever driven, which is a whole lot. but the project isn't for everyone and was pretty expensive. it's not a work truck.

It's a truck transmission and feels more floaty compared to a manual BMW or my old EVO 8, 9, and X.

Think of it as a refined AX15(pre 2000) jeep Wrangler TJ transmission with an extra gear and you'll be close.

Buy the manual. It's worth it

I love mine. Keep in mind it is a truck. Not going to shift like a car.

You can buy mine. I will give you the TW discount. $49k
