I had a great experience with Collin at Larry H Miller in Murray, Utah. Highly recommend the dealership. I did everything via text/email and drove to the dealership to a warm welcome, clean truck parked in the front for me, and a full tank of gas. I was at the dealership for less than an hour with the finance guy and this was only because they were backed up due to other customers picking up their trucks, 4 runners, etc.. Trading in my Outback was the best thing for me, and I'm stoked on the new purchase!

check this out. these numbers are based on $5k down. this is for a Limited with floor mats and mud guards. the $44282 MSRP already includes Toyota's "Delivery, processing and handling fee" which Toyota's own website indicates should be around $990 for a mid-size truck or suv (but is actually $1175 on the sticker). "Dealer Installed Options" is for filling the tires with nitrogen, which they already did so is non-negotiable. NY title and reg is $75, so wtf is the $275 for?

no disrespect, but the salesman was a kid, i guess everyone else was busy. he didn't know what to say when i told him my bank was offering 72 months @ 2.5%, but when he came back with these numbers his manager told him to tell me i would need a note from my bank if i wanted them to match the rate. why would i go get approved for a loan from my bank, and then ask them for a letter to that effect to give to a dealership?

i didn't know where to start so i just said, thank you for your time.

@D. Lengua when I got my '17, I got a loan rate from my credit union and when the dealership asked if I needed financing I said I had secured it through my credit union but they were welcome to shop me & see if any lenders could/would beat it. Capitol One came back 0.03% lower. But didn't have to provide any "proof". Now, if I'd pulled a stupidly low # out of thin air, might have been a different story.

interest rates are at all time lows, my credit is "excellent" and the sales manager is asking for a note from my mom. beat the rate or don't beat the rate.

What's the harm in showing them the rate? Easy to complain about the dealer asking for it but there's equal opportunity to be proactive and come prepared with proof of what you're approved for if attempting to use it as bargaining.

no, what's the point in showing them the rate? if my bank does a hard pull and gives me a loan at a good rate, i'm then going to say, now print something out so i can give the deal to a dealer? so then what? they meet the rate? how does that help me? or they beat it by a good half a point, in which case obviously my credit was good enough for them to just not dick around in the first place? if i have to go somewhere else to get the good rate anyway, fuggit.

Ehh pit the dealer/their lenders against your bank. I get the annoyance of their wanting proof but for something so simple that could possible save you nothing or a few hundred in interest. That said, to each their own!

Even Best Buy makes you show proof if you're trying to price match a pair of headphones. Why should a financing rate for a car be different?

you should take Best Buy up on that offer. i didn't ask anyone to meet the rate, i said i had my own financing. again - why would i go to the extra effort to give Toyota my interest rather than my bank? a hundred bucks? they didn't offer me anything for my trouble. they stand to make thousands if they want to finance it.

My bad for missing that detail. I guess I still don't see why it's such a big deal to come in with something from your bank, since I'm guessing you anticipated the dealer would offer to beat it. You're correct, you have no obligation to use their financing, but they don't have to blindly believe a rate any customer says they're approved for. Goes both ways. Enjoy your truck!

Paid MSRP for my Lunar Rock TRD Pro AT on June 26. Flew to Kansas from Detroit for it because it was the only one I could find that wasn't marked up $10-15k. Had the black inserts in the tailgate, predator steps, and mud guards. With those add ons, it came in just under 50k.

Can you explain how after a $1,000 discount the price selling price went up $1,000?

like i said, i didn't even know where to start with the guy. it's all so half-assed. they're trying to say that MSRP is a discount from their "selling price." but they can't be bothered to even format it in a way that makes sense.

or maybe that's deliberate, who can say.

So… have you thought about maybe having a build sheet with the price and what your looking for to see if they can allocate one or are you going into the dealership blind? I would definitely call around and do some research before just walking in. Prices have been crazy for a long time and if your wanting any kind of negotiations I would call and speak to numerous dealers and inform them your not going to pay for any dealer add ons or markup. Then you can either go up there with a build sheet or have them do one right in front of you and you can try and negotiate a little. Chances are you will still be paying MSRP minus incentives if they are available. Also I’ve had dealers tell me the same thing when I tell them what my bank was offering and they do ask to verify. I don’t know what you thought would happen by just saying what your bank is offering. Not sure on the response you were looking for but that would be my response as well. It kind of sounded like you were attempting to fish and see what you can catch out of them and right now dealers aren’t looking to lose money by matching anything you say without proof. Once numbers were negotiated and they make a comment about financing I would have told them that it’s already taken care of. Then when they pry that’s when you hit them with what you have as an interest rate and show proof. They are either going to say we can beat it or not. If they say they want to run your credit and see then you say for $500 off than your more than welcome to run it and see if you can match or beat it.

i found the car via car gurus. i searched for specific parameters, i knew what truck i was looking at and sent an email as a preliminary inquiry. i'm not following what you're saying about going in blind. i've done a great deal of research and been in contact as well as visited other dealers. this one just happened to be at dealership close by as well as being a mostly bare bones Limited.

i didn't ask them to finance the vehicle. (louder for the folks in the back!) when i indicated that i had financing the salesman seemed skeptical and asked what bank and what rate. he wanted the loan. because he makes money off it.

i'm entirely prepared to pay MSRP.

what i was illustrating was the manner in which a half-assed sales crew talks utter nonsense - that anyone can plainly see, like selling air for $1k and with a straight face - and then questioning me on a statement of fact that i never asked them to buy.

i don't gaf if they want the loan. why would i?
