Good Morning Porch! Took hours to detail and desand the RAV4 back to normal yesterday - just not moving too fast. Doing nothing at the beach all day will take it out of you - even the wife and dog were slow pokes. There used to be a big wooden sign at the 5 mile mark, gave you warning that from that point it is 4WD and there is no help. That's usually where we park, and it was "crowded" compared to normal. When school starts, it's not uncommon to have a half mile in either direction before you have a neighbor. We like that. Only real bummer was Carol has a leg that doesn't like to walk sometimes, and my sometimes "broken foot" started to hurt - so no long walk per normal. Rex enjoyed the water part, but he had a hard time with the little white caps! We don't have those in the pool. But he had an exciting day anyway. And the shady Ez-Up all to himself.
Going to have to look into that foot! It was fun though; hope to twist her arm for one more.
Will do something today, and mow tomorrow. Going to be in the 100's finally.

 

Good morning everyone! Some heavy storms in PA again yesterday - had at least one tornado touch down in southeast PA. Lots of property damage and some injuries but no reported deaths that I know of. We had heavy rain early afternoon followed by sun later. Then we had another heavy rain overnight - no winds, though.

Looks like grass mowing gets deferred another day until Saturday to let things dry out a bit.

0500 - String of intense late afternoon storms, lasting until about midnight. Tornado touch 'n go reported about a mile out, wooded area, no houses affected but road clousure signs up this morning. Everythng here looks ok, will check perimeter when the sun comes up. Same storms still churning to the south.. KY, TN, GA. Good real time generator test.

 

We had heavy rains late yesterday afternoon just as I was finishing cooking up some ribeye's on the grill. I did the second pass to fill in the driveway cracks. We are set to seal the driveway on Saturday morning. I am replacing the diffusion stone air lines in the pond today.

Speaking of that. Strange pop up storms yesterday afternoon. Actually kept moving after they formed over us. Only got 0.15" the whole time, but BRUTAL thunder and lighting for over two hours. More of that than all year combined. Knocked out power, and we didn't lose power during Snowmageddon! Even got an email from my solar said that there were "missing conductors", but that all seems due to the storm as it is fine now.

Yup, retirement can get expensive, Carl! I think I might have ordered some expensive new steps for the Taco! Have a great Friday!

 

My son is having fun in Colorado.

I had the tools (air down and compressor), so he dropped to 18 psi and had no problem with the "sandpit" on Medano Pass. Stock OEM tires worked fine (I wanted to toss some K02 on, but air pressure did the trick.

His high school friend lives in San Luis, CO.

 

And now for my weather report. Clear and sunny. Temp in the high 70’s with a nice breeze off the ocean.

If course we did have those great whites off the beach again. Oh wait that isn’t news they live there year round.

I guess I really don’t have much to complain about but I had to come up with something.

 

Weather here has changed drastically over the last couple of weeks. Rain in short bursts fairly often, sometimes heavy, sometimes just a drizzle, and cool with a lot of cloud cover.

The people with hay down can't bale it and the new crop is already growing up through the cut hay. Some will probably lose that cutting. But there will definitely be a healthy third cutting.

Nice to have some cool weather and moisture.

And the hummingbirds have gone CRAZY!!! We have black chins usually... but now we have as many Rufous and even a few broadtail. We had twenty birds on a busy evening two weeks ago, and now we have sixty or more.

 

Same here.. I think they're done with offspring, and now they're bulking up for the trip south.

Spent all day today and part of yesterday (before the dam rain ruined my afternoon) at my boys house helping after an almost record month of rain fall.



Couldn’t get ahead. So we had a small window to accomplish a lot of work. We made it and it looks great. Now I have to find a dry window for mine lol

Looks good Mike, and looks like a good place to hang out.
Found out that my buddy Jim replaced his Tundra that was totaled, he and the GF rented a car, drove out to Indiana, and then drove a Tundra back from a dealer, forgot to ask if it's a brand new one or used.

 

My mom had a stroke a couple of days ago. I’ve *known about* a lot of people who have had strokes but I have never *dealt with* one personally. My dad dealt with his mother’s stroke but he is on the immortal plane now, not here where I can ask him questions.

According to the docs it was mild and she should be able to go back to her life. But what I see is 3 days in a row now where she does very little more than sleep. Is that normal? If so when should we begin to see signs of recovery? How long could her recovery take? Will she really come all the way back? So many many questions. I feel like I need to know more about what is coming next, what I should expect and plan for and maybe even hope for.

It’s been a tough week.

 

So sorry Dave. Sounds like you need to talk to her doc. for her recovery back to her old self

 

Sorry Dave, but what Sue said! You can Google some GENERAL info, but remember the GENERAL part. Her doc will know best.

 

Dave, you and your mother are in our prayers. As others have said you really need to talk to her physician. I’ll give you a little information. Sleeping a lot after a stroke is not uncommon or abnormal. Fatigue and weakness after a stroke is common. A stroke is a trauma to the body and part of the healing process is sleep. In addition she’s older and likely on multiple medications which can make her sleepy and fatigued. She was also probably prescribed additional medications because of the stroke which also may make her sleep more. Since the doctor said the stroke was mild she may have had a TIA (transient ischemic attack) which is a mini stroke. Much better prognosis than a Cardiovascular attack which is a stroke.
Write a list of questions you have and then make an appointment with her doctor. A written list will insure you don’t forget all you want to ask. Prayers to your mom.

Sorry to hear about your mom, Dave. As others have said, her physicians are the best source of initial answers. The severity and location are the keys to the answers to your question. I have a friend who is in the hospital now having just had a mild stroke. They expect full recovery for him and he really has no symptoms at this point. I hope your mom is the same.

My mom had a stroke that caused some lifetime issues. Lynn and I cared for her in our home for about a year and a half but she was eventually able to live on her own fairly independently until she eventually needed nursing care. Hers was a moderate stroke, though.

We will keep her and you in our prayers.
