Toyotas are good. The new Tundra looks like it has a tow haul mode.

Beautiful truck! I have never used an auto broker, but I’m sure it’s much less stressful.

    Update:

Found the exact 4 runner trim we want on a dealership website located about 1.5 hours away. I called early in the morning and set an appt for the same afternoon. The lady assured me the vehicle was on the lot and there was only one person who had looked at it the previous day. I drove to my bank and secured financing. I called as I was pulling out of the driveway to confirm it is still there, and that no one is currently working a deal on it. She assured it was there and no pending deal. I rushed to the dealership, and the salesman tells me the 4 runner is sold, and has been for weeks, long before it arrived at the dealer!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad: I was so pissed off. Luckily my wife was with me to keep me from making a complete ass of myself! Why do these vehicles even get posted on dealer websites if they’re already purchased?!! I imagine this will be the case the rest of the year with this current market. We’re looking for the Trail Edition in cement, and there are literally none anywhere that aren’t spoken for.

We have had several 4Runners and Tacomas thru the years. Just traded the '18 4Runner for a new TRD Tacoma, unbelievable deal, built 7/22, should see it week of 8/15, several options. The Gen 1 is a keeper.
Win or Lose ? I know this Tacoma will be worth what I paid for it, or more in 12 months. Saw the new Tundra, looks like a Mack truck, designs are getting crazy.

My first thought is that the 4Runner has the 4.0 V6, which is a much better motor than the Tacoma's 3.5

I have an ‘18 Taco and we had an ‘18 Highlander lease that was ending. We were hoping to replace the Highlander with a 4runner, but were dismayed at how ridiculously overpriced the 4runner is. Yes, the Highlander is a lame looking mall SUV that is not as trail worthy, but it’s still AWD, has a more comfortable ride, has more passenger and cargo space, and is a lot more reasonably priced. So we bought out the lease and will see how the market goes in the next year.

I hear that. Been casually looking at 4runners, and yes they’re great looking and capable, but holy crap they’re expensive to get into

Not concerned about 3.5 vs 4.0. The Tacoma is going to pull that E-Pro, no problems. It is only 3100 lb dry, will be 3700 wet. The '04 pulls these around with no sweat.
Dealer gave us more then what we paid for the 4Runner in April '18. The pickup is more convenient for towing, etc.
Because of some field work in Florida, the 4Runner had to go, the new Tacoma will fit just fine in that capacity.
If you are going to tow with the 4Runner or Tacoma, Equalizer hitch up, or similar can help.

There have been other threads on TW with members touting great experiences with auto brokers. The particular broker they were pushing made you send their entire fee up front before they would being searching for a vehicle for you, and wouldn't accept PayPal (which, incidentally, has the most robust buyer protection) because they charged the broker a fee to accept payments. All of the few TW members singing the broker's praises had less than 10 posts.

Auto brokers can provide a great service and make the process much less of a hassle for you, but make sure they are licensed in your state with the required surety bond, aren't getting any compensation from the dealers they work with, and are charging you a flat fee for their services with a small retainer up front and the balance due when they perform. Also realize that a lot of what they are going to save you in vehicle price will be canceled out by their fee, so what you are mostly buying is there ability to locate a vehicle for you and take the dealer hassle off your plate.

Be sure and compare with the competition which really includes much more expensive SUVs. The 4Runner is well built. It has the highest resale value on the planet for a reason.

Could Be. :) Got more for this '18 4R then what we paid. Low-low miles, ordered new in 2018. MG 4X4 Excellent.

Can’t go wrong with either. I have a 2014 4 Runner SR5 and just bought a new Tacoma TRD OR.

I read a post, where the guy said a 4Runner was on the lot for some time, then sold before he could buy it. I would not touch it, sitting there for 4 or 5 weeks. Check the build date in the door jam.
Manufactured two, three months ago, and no sale ? Also, if new, and sitting on the lot, any miles on it ? Techies drive it to correct something ? Buying new tires ? Ask them to see the manufactured dates.
Now this may not mean anything to someone, except, if we are buying new, then it should be new, in the wrapper. :)

I also have a 2018 4Runner Limited. Funny thing is, the trade-in value right now is higher then what I paid for it! I love the 4Runner. Much more family vehicle, great visibility. I'm also a fan of the Limited's full-time 4x4 as it's great for winter mixed road conditions, however the 20" wheels need to go when it's time for new tires.

Anyway, with a Tacoma they make a great pair!

Happened with the first Tacoma i was supoosed to buy. Luckily my salesman said he wanted to put eyes on it before i drove out. He was pissed, said it was sold and no one changed the inventory on it. Then he let me have one they had on order, i went it and changed all the stuff i wanted and got it in 2 months.

I bought a new 4Runner in April for the wife. It was also a hard to find trim level with the color and options we wanted.

I kept checking autotrader.com and cars.com using a 250 mile radius for the search. One popped up exactly like we wanted 100 miles away. I called the dealership and talked to a salesman. He said it was in transit and would be there in two weeks. I negotiated the deal with him and put a $500 deposit on it. Ended up getting $2500 off MSRP.

With today's market you can't wait for one to hit the lot.

Agreed. I knew it was going to be a tall task to find the one we want this late in the year. I am fine putting a deposit down on one that is in transit, but even those have been hard to find. I’m not getting my hopes up, but there’s a couple of salesmen at a couple different lots supposedly keeping an eye out for me. They’re supposed to get new allotments this week and if there is one coming to them I am supposed to have the first shot at it so we’ll see. I trust them about as much as I trust our government. The cement color in the 4 runner is going away after ‘21 so I’d like to score one, but it’s not looking too promising.
