Went from 3rd Gen Taco to 3GT4R to 2nd Gen Taco and finally a V8 4GT4R.
Someone had mentioned it in the Norcal BS thread and I believe he passed.

Same, I have a car with loud exhaust, when I drive it to work and leave at 5 am I start it and let the clutch out and almost idle out of the neighborhood. Respect for others seems like a thing of the past.

I think you might be missing some context. He passed the smog test.

No fun to be had in Cali.
Nothing but Karens and regulations here.
Y'all might as well leave now while the gettin' is good.
    I hear Tx is open.

Buy the tuner. You can flash to stock. Pass and flash back. As long as your not so built the stock map makes the motor puke its internals.

That statement is done for liability purposes. Just like Qtips say "do not use in ear".

If the tunes change the fuel maps (making them richer/leaner), then that is circumventing the emission control device (ie: the ECU) by programming it to produce more emissions (however minuscule the increase in emissions might be).

At the tune event a week ago, @chanvchau said he was going to have his truck smogged at a friend's shop to see if the tune set off alarms.

I’m not sure I’d want to have a practice run if I know I’m modded. I’d prolly look for a TIS tool to answer that question.

Just to update you guys, I can confirm the CVC tune passed smog. Got to talk to the guy and get the run down on how they’re testing. They always done obd2 scans for vehicle information on the ECU. No problems there, nor have there been in the past. What’s new is testing for parameters on how the engine is running. Any modifications with the tune that deviates from factory spec too far off will throw a red flag and get you state ref’d. The CVC tune is within those parameters, and that’s what we tested for. So I can only assume the OV tune will also pass, since we made original adjustments to the base 2.0 OV tune. I can’t confirm with other tunes, but I presume they would also pass. These parameters will change over time and I’ll be taking my truck in for a smog test with this shop every 6 months to ensure the CVC Tunes remain compliant.

TLDR: CVC Tuned passed smog. I only assume other tunes via vftuner pass as well, given they don’t deviate percentages too far from factory spec.

For the last couple of smog checks, they have done this (checked the engine running parameters while also looking at the tailpipe emissions). Of course, they also have checked miles since last reset, VIN number, and outstanding/not cleared CEL. This year, they also check for outstanding recall notifications-I happen to have an outstanding recall for tires.no idea what that’s all about but safe to say, the tires are a lot newer than that.

Post #84 will become an urban legend unless the smog-ee verifies the pass. Just sayin’ :D

The smog-ee posted himself he passed in the NorCal BS thread. That’s what roguegs was saying and Longboard provided the username of the smog-ee. I went to the NorCal BS thread and confirmed. Now see post #97 :anonymous:

That’s encouraging. Now we need a smog-ee volunteer with a KDMax tune.
