I know all the "good" reasons people put SBC in things -- I just don't want to do what other people do, I have a bright orange truck after all...

The kid I got the Wisconsin engines from had a 6V53 Detroit with a ten speed to sell -- if there had been a handy U-Haul trailer dealer that probably would have ended up in the garage.

Now that would be a repower!

In my current position I deal with the local manufacturing companies, specifically plant managers/ foreman and HR. without outright saying what I do, I help provide/develop those talents. But not at the um.... sub par level i stated lol.

I defiantly will. On our way to Wyoming we passed in the night. Headed back home we were passing through during the day, but only really stopped at a nice little park in ogallala to let the dogs stretch their legs and grab a bite to eat.

Until shortly after buying my 2017 AC Sport, I hadn't seen a Inferno color. They look so much better than any picture could do justice.
Yeah on the whole SBC swap, they can be very reliable or at least extremely easy to fix or repair, but take a fine example of the one pictured earlier today, I sure wouldn't be the one to molest that beauty.
The guy at work who own one put it together from used, abused, and neglected donor's.

Inferno is an odd color, depending on the light it can be all sorts of colors from bright to soft, orange or red.

It was actually Blazing Blue that got me to look at the Tacoma. I never paid any attention new stuff, just had cheap old clunkers & wheezers, took care of them and they did fine.

Day 1) I drove past the dealer (in my $1200 daily van) saw a BBP and thought "cool color".
Day 2) "That is kind of a cool looking truck".
Day 3) "That is bad ass, I'll just stop to look."

So I'm blown away - air conditioning, CD player, electric windows, cloth buckets, all this nice stuff -- it was an SR5.
I truly had no idea modern trucks were so fancy. Hell, I remember when a back bumper was optional and the "standard" transmission was a 3 speed on the wheel.

Then I started reading, discovered Inferno, discovered this forum -- most expensive mistake of all -- and the rest as they say is history.

I love that share! Thanks rusty. The guy who I originally worked with at my current job was telling me his dad was super Penny pincher and wouldn't even splurge on a radio in his new truck way back when. Instead he used a cheap dinosaur transistor radio that those gas stations gave away with ten free fill ups or something. Oh, then complain all the time because it didn't work for squat

Hmm, were those gas stations called Dino? I think there's still a couple around here but I've never stopped. Big green dinosaur

    Yes! Thanks.
By the way, the first new truck we bought my wife caught both of our eyes the same way.
1999 Ford Ranger Step Side 4x4 access cab 5spd manual.
Jalapeno Green. We went from that to double cab TRD offroad because little ones come along.

When I got the ($1200) daily van the air conditioner didn't work (naturally) and the stereo was crap.

Fixing an AC that hasn't worked for years is a gamble at best.

I will probably run this thing 10 years so I decided to actually put a "system" in it. Dynamat in the doors and quarters, Alpine head unit with their plug in power pack amp (45 watts RMS x 4) Kicker and Rockford Fosgate speakers -- I spent more than half the cost of the van

I have a 99 Ranger regular cab, 2wd/4cly/m5, 200K on the original clutch.

Funny, when I got the Tacoma I had only compared it to the others on the lots. (remember when dealers had 20-30 trucks in a row?)
In my mind I was thinking of the Toyota mini trucks similar in size to the Ranger, I was kind of surprised how much larger the Tacoma was.

And the Tacoma has grown since. That 1999 Ranger was a huge step up from what my wife was driving. A 1986 IIRC, Mazda B2000 two wheel drive, basic radio and no factory AC. She loved that truck because her grandmother bought it or helped her buy it for graduating high school. Sentimental value. We kept it for a few years but decided to pass it on.

That Jalapeno green was cool and it changed colors just as rusty described the Inferno. I see if I got any pictures but they may not be very good, picture of pictures

    Good morning everyone. :rain:
My cousin called last night and said he had some training and covid vaccination to get done today so wouldn't be down to work on the car with me. There's plenty I can do on my own but it's kind of rainy day and I slept in way later than usual. I need to book mark a few pages more in the Corvette service manual for going back together anyway.
I looked for where there used to be a picture of the Ford Ranger but it wasn't in the frame anymore. It's somewhere amongst the hundreds of others.
Have a great day everyone, I'll drop back in today to keep on what's up...

Question, I think some of you around the shop here are actually auto mechanics, so when installing new brake pads, does the noise maker for when pad material is low, does that generally go on the trailing edge of the rotor. Seems I read something by GM, that was the correct way but that was years ago. Maybe it doesn't make a difference?

more of a shade tree mechanic here.
If it fits both sides either works. It technically should be even flat wear. I thought they were normally on the pad itself? Its been a little bit since ive changed brake pads.
