I have a 99 Ranger regular cab, 2wd/4cly/m5, 200K on the original clutch.

Funny, when I got the Tacoma I had only compared it to the others on the lots. (remember when dealers had 20-30 trucks in a row?)
In my mind I was thinking of the Toyota mini trucks similar in size to the Ranger, I was kind of surprised how much larger the Tacoma was.

And the Tacoma has grown since. That 1999 Ranger was a huge step up from what my wife was driving. A 1986 IIRC, Mazda B2000 two wheel drive, basic radio and no factory AC. She loved that truck because her grandmother bought it or helped her buy it for graduating high school. Sentimental value. We kept it for a few years but decided to pass it on.

That Jalapeno green was cool and it changed colors just as rusty described the Inferno. I see if I got any pictures but they may not be very good, picture of pictures

    Good morning everyone. :rain:
My cousin called last night and said he had some training and covid vaccination to get done today so wouldn't be down to work on the car with me. There's plenty I can do on my own but it's kind of rainy day and I slept in way later than usual. I need to book mark a few pages more in the Corvette service manual for going back together anyway.
I looked for where there used to be a picture of the Ford Ranger but it wasn't in the frame anymore. It's somewhere amongst the hundreds of others.
Have a great day everyone, I'll drop back in today to keep on what's up...

Question, I think some of you around the shop here are actually auto mechanics, so when installing new brake pads, does the noise maker for when pad material is low, does that generally go on the trailing edge of the rotor. Seems I read something by GM, that was the correct way but that was years ago. Maybe it doesn't make a difference?

more of a shade tree mechanic here.
If it fits both sides either works. It technically should be even flat wear. I thought they were normally on the pad itself? Its been a little bit since ive changed brake pads.

I typically take them off or never put them on depending on the pad... :spy:

My last two brake jobs (both Raybestos Element 3 Hybrid pads) had the squealer separate. I never put them on... Does this make me a hack? Maybe, who knows. I check my vehicles frequently enough I know how much pad I got left. Typically around here in the rust belt rust jacking gets the pads before the pads wear down to be replaced. This is with lubing under the abatement clips. Rust never sleeps on this mountain.

Sometimes squealers don’t need to be installed…. You know why… you won’t be installing new ones again !!

    Thanks Mike.
Yeah, I just couldn't recall if you do use them what the correct orientation was supposed to be. I just did the brakes on my Impala and put them on the trailing edge. All four pads had the indicator built in.

Shops around here (even the Toyota dealer I use) don't do brake jobs like I do unfortunately, so they're not touching anything of mine. Not tooting my own horn, but I can take the time to properly clean and lubricate everything. The brakes on our 2015 Camry SE only lasted 31K before I had to replace them due to warpage from heat (totally my fault, I drive like an asshole and live up on this mountain). Funny feeling I'll be doing it again in a similar time frame. Now the 1995 Talon, yea, I pretty much did the last brake job that thing will ever see...

I once had a Firestone shop do brakes on my 93 Chevy, a few days later I seen the brake hose had a loop in it! Granted there are some ace mechanics out there, I happen to work with a former auto mechanic and he's one of the best we have.

Yea I don’t use them personally.
Seen many times they start squealing and something has bent the squealer and the pads have A lot of life left and they get a new brake job to “stop the squeak “.

Good morning crew, hope our fearless leader of this thread is all good.
I'm up this morning and ready to replace radiator in my daughter Wrangler. 12/28/16 when I installed it. Lifetime warranty, good thing.
Have a good day. I must get busy, check back later.
