This is CA, so things can change and I live in fear of all things emissions related. I love this state, don’t get me wrong, just scared on this specific topic.

    It’s wonderful at lower rpms:D

I love warm weather when I can open my windows and listen to it. I’ll try to get a recording of the gurgle on Saturday.

Thought you standard shift dorks might appreciate my shift boot mod since my friends don't care ("it's just a shift boot...?")

I've had an axle dumped exhaust for years now and never an issue getting smogged. It's after the sensors and cats so there's really no reason for them to care.

The way that I approached it was to have a take-off stock exhaust just in case things went sideways.

There's a nice rumble at low revs. A solid whoosh up top.

I remember living in Corona and commuting to Orange County around 2007, and CHP would have these pop up emission check points every once in a while on Beach Blvd near my work. I got pulled in once. I had a newish 1.8T Jetta at the time that was stock so no problems, but they did all the usual checks (OBD II reader, probe in the tailpipe, and visual under the car)

It was a popular cruising stretch near Knott's Berry Farm so I imagined they made a lot of $$$ off of fix it tickets there.

Need a favor from anyone with a 3rd gen 6MT. Does the pushrod on your clutch master cylinder wiggle and rotate if you try to move it with your fingers?

Yes, and it will right from the factory to a certain degree. I adjusted the rod free play on both of my 3rd gens more to my liking. I have less travel before something actually starts happening now when I push the pedal. I followed the adjustment procedure in the service manual. You should be able to find it on here..

Need to adjust mine, after the TSB for the squeaky clutch, I've got probably 20% of clutch movement before it engages now.

Excellent. I have been having what feels like clutch drag but very inconsistent. Some days I get butter smooth shifts and then the next day it feels like the synchros work harder (not grinding, just extra force needed), or I’ll get blocked out of 1st gear, more force needed to pull shifter out of gear, etc.

    Have you modded/removed your accumulator?

These posts reminded me about this FJ clutch swap I read about in @su.b.rat build thread. Click here.

It went on my to do list as soon as I read about it. Haven't done it yet, but figured some of you in this thread might also be interested in it.

In the mean time, I will be adjusting my clutch with the service manual. Thanks @MOC221_ !

FJ clutch pedal swap is somewhere on my list too. Just kinda close to the bottom and the list is not short.

Thanks for taking the time to record that - much appreciated. I like the sound of the Borla - particularly at the end of the first video. Cheers!
