Don't know if you caught it but the day after the initial news hit Drinkwitz asked Sankey at SEC media days if horns down was going to be a penalty. Pretty good for a nerd.

 

Since I’m new to this sec thing I have a serious question.
Does a quality loss to Alabama count more than a win over aggy? And if we do go 1-7 in conference play do all of those quality losses still get us a play off spot?

The conferences need to stop doing Divisions and have the top 2 teams play for the Conference Title.

When you have a top school stomp a sub .500 one that got in because their division top to bottom was trash... kinda dilutes the game. ACC is the worst at this. B1G's latest iteration of division separation is headed that way too.

 

We all know the reason is money. But coming from an OU fan, I want to compete with better opponents. I'm excited to watch OU play in the SEC and face off with so many historic programs. Also, I consider myself a realistic fan and don't expect Oklahoma to dominate in any way, but claiming they'd be the 6th best team seems a stretch.

 

Again, Stoops made the case not long ago the SEC was overrated. The record doesn't show any real SEC dominance. And everyone is just talking about football. OU should be able to compete better in basketball and other sports against the SEC.

Maybe they'll be able to transition from a football school to a basketball school.

 

Is 5th better? I’m sure they’re better than Auburn most years, but don’t look for the ref protection that the B12 afforded them to ensure a playoff bid in the SEC. UGA, LSU, ALA, and UF more often than not will run OU out of the building.

 

I don’t mind divisions in these 12+ member conferences for scheduling rotations, and 100% agree on top two would square away for the conference championship. It’s my chief complaint for automatic bids if we’re going to see a near .500 team sneak out with a conference championship because they got up for one game.

 

How this impacts OU's recruiting is the wild card. I could see it going either way.

 

I guess we should do away with regular season and go 64 team playoff. Those that don't make the cut can organize a NIT playoff ensuring EVERYONE gets in a playoff. I plan to invest in a trophy making company.

 

This is why I do not watch college BB... the regular season means nothing if you let everyone into the tournament anyway.

 

I don’t think it’ll change much, either way. I don’t think you’ll have kids go to OU that weren’t already going there, but you’ll certainly have more SEC media exposure in local recruiting spots that didn’t have it before.

 

OU gets whoever they want from Oklahoma, which might be 2-3 per year. Probably 75% of their team is from Texas. They could assure Texas recruits in the past they would win the conference. Now that dynamic has changed.

 

Lol, your argument loses all credibility with the ref blaming. Why would they get run out of the building? Have you seen OU's record against those teams in the last 10-20 years?

Well, I live there. They used to teach OK history in the schools 50 years ago.

 

Yes, I took OK history. Anyway, to stay on topic... OU will not dominate, or even come close to dominating, the SEC. That's what I look forward to, tougher competition. The "OU will get run out of the building by x,y, and z teams" is a lazy argument.

 

I’m old enough to remember when the refs saved OU against WVU for blocking a guy so hard it hurt his feelings and called back a TD that lost us the game. Their the MBB Kanas of B12 football. Protect the brand at all costs.

OU has a history of getting beat by anyone not named Tennessee, Auburn, or third string UF in a bowl game. You’ve beaten Saban ONCE. I’d hardly be bragging about your record against the SEC in the last twenty when OU’s best team in years got absolutely humiliated by LSU for four quarters two years ago.
