    Oh I know a standalone is the way to go. The timing on these trucks leave a lot to be desired. I wouldn't be surprised if even fuel economy could be improved by 50%. Megasquirts are like a quarter of the price though, but they don't tune themselves.

    Haltech has always been the Cadilac of aftermarket ECUs to me. I think I'd shell out if I were completely redoing the valve train and internals as well. Then you'd actually use more than a third of the RPM/PSI map. (I'm sure they tune off VE). It's just an internal/mental debate on pragmatism here. Sounds like you drive yours exponentially more than I do mine, so I get why you're chasing the smooth as butter vibes.

    Yes, I talked to both of them and about his twin turbo 3.4,
    He did have to remove the AC and hood latch in order to get the intercooler in there.
    He was impressive with mine having 670,000 :))))
    They all were actually hehe

    The only down side is it probably will not be a good as it could be because it’s pushing 90 plus degrees now but it will be great once the summer temps come back down

    Wow. Surprised that he only runs a FMU. I guess the stock ECU handles turbo powerband better than a supercharger.


    And I wonder how much of a difference it would make to move those filters somewhere pulling outside air rather than inside the engine bay

    He said in the video he’s only running the FMU. I think he just went after a single to double swap and/or or a new waste gate spring.

    Now I’m down a bit of a rabbit hole. TRD used to include FMUs with kits early on. Then they stopped. Maybe after they realized they could just reference the boos pressure with the factory regulator and it’s 1:1.

    Now im curious why FMUs aren’t more popular. It’s a cheap way to avoid things like the 7th or even FIC. You can get FMUs that have a much larger delivery than 1:1.

    This dude seems to be running turbos at 9psi and stock pump and injectors and is fine.

    Now I’m wondering if you could get the same exact outcome as a 7th by just using a larger FMU. Instead of 1:1 use a 3:1 or so on….

    @Speedytech7 what are your thoughts?

    I've wondered this myself but I can't get a guinea pig... The least aggressive FMU you can buy that isn't a hokey adjustable one is 8:1. But 10 and 12:1 are more common. That said, if you find the right ratio the potential for success is clearly there. @1997tacomav6 has an old one with the FMU and @BartMaster1234 bought an old trd FMU, be nice to know what the ratio is. Shawn is a nice dude, if you ask in the comments he might reply. It's a bandaid, but so is the 7th... Hell @1997tacomav6 likely won't need his with the Haltech and some spicier injectors.

    I have to keep the methonal kit to control the heat under control in boost.
    There is no other way to keep the heat in check under boost

    You can keep using meth, or just water... We were talking about the extra fuel pressure regulator that you have on your truck. You should bring that up to Brent or Jaime before you have em tune. They may want to disconnect it. And maybe just bring some fresh water for the meth kit, you may no longer need anything but water which would be nice. The major upside of the Haltech is removing bandaid solutions like these in favor of better more precise ecu control where possible.
