Dave: Sorry to read about your mom. May she recover quickly.

Doing laundry and sealing the driveway today. Toss cooking dinner and guitar practice and my day is booked. LOL in there and

Thanks everyone. Good to hear that lots of sleep isn't unusual. Her stroke wasn't small, not a TIA -- turns out she had one of those at some point in the past, but we never knew until they took pictures of her head recently. Cerebellar infarct, about 3cm in size.

Her doctors are good at taking care of her, as far as I can tell, but much less good at keeping the family informed. It's a team of doctors with a retinue of residents following them around. The residents get the joy of calling family and updating them. The woman doing that this week clearly can't stand to do the job and tries every trick to get off the phone ASAP. She also doesn't even look at the information before calling! Last week she told us "we ran the test and are waiting for the results" and my wife laughed out loud -- we had seen the results ourselves about an hour earlier, on mom's "myChart" web access! I spend time in the hospital every day, hoping that the docs will come in while I'm there and I'll get the straight dope. But that's hit and miss.

    Morning all:
Sorry about your mom also Dave, like others are saying, talk to the doc and ask some questions.
I know several people who had strokes at varying ages, they sure can effect people differently, my mother had a stroke where she lost her mobility, her bodily functions, and did brain damage, it really messed her up, I would assume that would be a cardiovascular stroke like Ken referred to.
The ones that had less severe strokes seemed to do pretty well for the most part after a relatively short time, hope that's the case for your mom.
Was just looking for a book on the computer that they gave me to read, think it was titled "victims of stroke", there was a lot of info in that book but I didn't see it listed. I returned the one they gave me to read, if I had it I would send it to you.
JUST IN CASE, remember this ---- Epogen and Procrit are the exact same.
I'll go into detail if Epogen is prescribed.

Dave: Sounds like you and the wife have dealt with the Hospital Healthcare Network quite a bit. Setting up My Chart is the way to go. Hard enough to remember what day it is let alone what happened during a doctor's visit 6 months sago. I found My Chart to be one of the best tools to have in your healthcare toolkit. Right up there with doctor contact numbers and pictures of bottles for all the prescribed medicines and vitamins you take in your phone.

First coat of sealer is on the driveway. I will do a second coat on Monday. We might get rain tomorrow.

:pccoffee: Good Morning all! For those keeping track, it is Saturday. I say that because I knew yesterday was Friday all day, and forgot by night time.

Nothing to do but play with the power wash carb and pool today! Good enough.

More best wishes, Dave. And you too Tom.

    Afternoon all:
Heard the neighbor working on cutting back his side of the brush row between our properties and went over to BS with him for a minute, he said look at this, the branches that he was trimming off were loaded with juvenile spotted lantern flies. They had been here to spray for them last year, looks like it didn't do too much good and sure looks like they may be here to stay!

All I know is that a stroke is a bleed in the brain. I would expect recovery to include plenty of sleep. Best wishes.

Actually there are 2 main causes of stroke. As you mention above a bleed in the brain, sometimes caused by a burst aneurysm is a hemorrhagic stroke. The other is an ischemic stroke which is caused by a blocked artery. Some very minor blockages have minimal minor symptoms that do not last and those are known as a transient ischemic attack. Sometimes people who have a TIA don’t even realize they’ve had one.
People should educate themselves on the symptoms of strokes and TIA’s so that they can recognize if they may be experiencing an event. If a person experiences stroke symptoms immediate treatment can prevent death and minimize long term stroke effects.

Good morning, everyone!! I was able to get our grass cut and the clippings picked up - about 4 hours total. The weather pattern we're having causes the grass to grow quickly but the rain keeps me from cutting as often as I need to so I don't have to pick up the clippings. Ah, well. It is enjoyable time for me to listen to classic rock.

Rain coming in this evening - thunderstorms predicted with the chance of light hail. No plans for today - I need to pick blueberries again. Great year for those.

    Be safe out there!!

Rain all day here in the DC area. Driveway sealing is bonded so no wash out. I will put a second coat on tomorrow in the AM. Today is just relaxing.

I finished picking my blueberries yesterday. I have 4 bushes, probably 30 years old, and I had to trim them a lot this past spring to get some new growth going. I had a good crop this year, but last year we had about 15 gallons of berries!!

We have somewhere around 15 bushes - most 30+ years as well. We started cutting them back a few years ago and that really rejuvenated them - we put bone meal on them in the spring, too. We've been giving them away, inviting friends and family to pick and freezing them as well.

According to my sister, mom made some real progress yesterday. We got her part way out of bed while I was there, but then she got really lightheaded so that was that. Later on she made a big dent in her lunch spread, first time she's eaten more than a few bites. That's a big deal because they're feeding her via IV and that can only do so much; if she eats on her own it is a big step towards being sprung loose from the high level care unit she's in now and moving to rehab. I'm cautiously optimistic, which is saying a lot for me! I'm pretty curmudgeonly -- just ask my wife, she'll tell you. ;)

    That's good news, Dave!

:typing: Good Morning all! Funnies read, coffee almost finished, and had a nice breakfast to boot. Turns out the "fits your engine" carb doesn't, I found after modifying a throttle linkage...oh well, new one on the way. Not rebuildable, but at $12, who cares. At least this one matches the pictures exactly! Nothing but pool and some smoked ribs before our predicted rain. Works for me!

No blueberries, but we got some corn coming along!
