1st step ordered,
2nd step bench tuned with my specific tacoma info for a map and wire harnesses specifically for my ECU made by SNP SPEED ,GABE
3rd step it arrives tomorrow and will do a dry run install since my tune date is the 12th

 

how long did it take between ordering the haltech and having it in your hands?

 

2 months because of covid and the connectors were not available,
The haltech was available

I think everything is back to normal now and probably 2 or 3 weeks max depending of course

 

Because the haltech doesn’t use the MAF the stock 2.5” tube section will be replaced with a 3.5” tube that section that will match right up to the KN intake tube with a coupler.
There’s got to be some power gains just by adding an 1” more air volume to the intake I would think

 

I've always had concerns with CAI systems being vulnerable to water intrusion. It may not be a concern for you, but I've been in situations more than once having to cross flowing water as part of the trail. The OEM airbox isn't perfect but it does offer a little better protection in those scenarios.

Maybe a bigger tube mated to the stock airbox might solve that.

 

Possibly. The supercharger doesn’t have to work as hard to suck air in.

I was reading a little about this earlier. Some guy did a bunch of work to test out pressure drop in his intake. The found that have a smooth intake and moving the intake from the fender(low pressure) to in front just under the bumper netted him enough gains to need to tuning again from leaning out.

But a guy at work said he put a big bore throttle body on his 700hp truck and he lost power. Maybe he was just leaning out though.

I still think velocity of air is important. So it really just depends. Too big and the air slows too much. Think of it like sucking through a straw. Too big and too small are no good. But you’ll only know when you try it.

 

This is all new territory for me and most others here too, but my money is that having the tube starting out at 3.5” and graduating down with no MAF vain sticking out into the tube will be win - win,
Before my setup would have started out at 2.5” then went to 3.5” then back down to the supercharger inlet.
Porting the supercharger added more air flow and a bit more power,
More air better performance

 

I'd be so stoked to see brent ripping a taco on the channel! I want to see the#s shawns turbo 5vz 4runner did but they never did a video on it. I know James from cleetus channel was impressed by it.

 

Do you plan on running it with the stock MAF tubing first and then trying the larger one? That’s the only way to know if there’s power to be had there. I know some of the FIC guys would be interested to hear. With the FIC you can tune the MAF signal for a larger tube.

 

Probably not, that would cost me extra money for the tune and this is costing plenty as it is, I just hope it's not 90--100 when they do the tune because it will run soft because of the heat from the supercharger

 

what does it cost to dyno at pfi? by the pull? minute? so in his dyno video he got 8psi on his turbo. Im guessing thats a bigger volume of air than we achieve at 10-12 pounds through or supercharger?

 

I don't know, the tune is done on the dyno and will take a few hours,
The big disadvantage the supercharger has is it takes 65hp to drive it and the intake temp AFTER the supercharger are in the 175 degrees and the turbo is probably 10 degrees over the outside temps.

 

It arrived today and looks super simple to install.
Basically your ECU wires get unplugged and plugged into the new connector the same way as before.
All those wires go into two connections that
plug into the haltech 2000.
The OEM 02 sensor gets removed and replaced with the haltech 02 sensor.
This 02 wire goes to the haltech CAN WIDEBAND CONTROLER.
Then the CAN WIDEBAND CONTROL wire
goes into the HALTECH 2000.
There is a vacuum hose that needs to be tap
into the engine vacuum system.
So far it look easy but will see how it goes once I get everything connected and what issues I run into if any

10 degrees over after the intercooler but turbos create alot of heat compressing air

 

What size fuel injectors are you going to be using?

 

Stock because I want the methonal for cooling,
There’s no reason to get larger injectors,

edit, GABE was able to tune it with the stock injectors with my FMU

 

I will be following this closely. I absolutely despise the Split Second R4 software that is required to "tune" the 7th injector setup.

 

Here’s some interesting info from the legendary Kenne Bell. I might try this right after the MAF to see if it’s restrictive at all. There’s no reason to try this after the throttle body really. We’re stuck with the throttle body size (even with the minor porting) and supercharger intake manifold.
