    What's going on bowhunters??

Had new ABB Platinum strings put on the Hoyt HyperForce. Had to move the rest a bit, maybe .030", to get bare shafts to hit with field points. Good out to forty. Still undecided what broadheads for elk. SlickTrick ViperTricks or Magnus 2 Blade Stingers (leaning towards). Both fly good out to 50 yards. Time to starting freezing and vacuum sealing some meals, pick up a few more Peak meals. Waypoints are downloaded to Gaia, looking at a few more spots for plan D thru Z.

I feel like a lame sometimes lol. You’re posting legit meals for long extended hunts while I’m packing two Uncrustables lol. If I do an all day sit, I’ll pack four. I put them the backpack frozen and come lunch time they’re perfect. The joys of hunting Fl. I’ve got to get out west and do an elk or mule deer hunt one year while I’m still able to do so.

Dude you really do need to! I started two years ago and this will be year three. It’s become the one major factor in my sanity. So incredible out west even if I eat tag soup

Two years is my goal, the last two years of my life have been HELL. I went through a nasty divorce and am taking my lumps. I’ll be debt free again in two years- sooner hopefully. Till then, I have a lease and public land in Fl. I’m counting all the blessings I have. I’ll be in the woods- palmettos- in two weeks.

I love the adventure and intrigue of being in the palmetto. It hides a heart attack at any moment, and that's why it is fun. As close as I will ever get to hunting cape buffalo in the African scrub.

Still getting the daily reps in. Slowed down to prolly 4-5 days a week of shooting and upped the work outs to 5-6 days a week of lifting and cardio. Season opens here august 15th. Might be able to stick one before I head to see my grand parents in Nebraska in sept. Gunna go for 2 weeks and back pack hunt again this year. It’s my favorite trip, been looking forward to it all year .

Taken from two angles at twenty-five yards. They just stood there and posed as I walked parallel to them. That front edge of the tree line in the background will be full of scrapes and rubs two months from now. At the gaps in the middle and on the ends. I watch them make them from my kitchen window. There is a gap in the tree line just to the right of the big oak in the background, the light spot.. Last year I and my neighbor who lives about forty yards to the right of there watched as two bucks squared off and fought in that gap, both bigger and heavier-beamed than this. There was a lot of slow, menacing movement, each casting aspersions, obviously both of them "trash talking" before they got it on. It was LOUD. And they could have cared less that we were out there watching them. You know that sound a 2x4 makes when you drop it on a stack of other 2x4's? There is a lot more of that lumber-on-lumber sound in a fight than the sound we make while rattling. And that sound a horse makes when it blows out through its mouth and its lips flap. A bunch of that too. You might try clanking two foot-long pieces of 2x4 together mixed in with your rattling. I've learned more about deer behavior from that window than I have in fifty years of being in the woods. And here is what it boils down to: A matriarchal doe ALWAYS runs the show, and even the biggest bucks defer to her. What she says, goes. Tight family units for life consisting of matriarchal doe, her brothers and sisters, her kids and her sister's kids, and their grandkids, often four generations. Juvenile bucks too until they find a bachelor group to belong to like this one. (There are three 1-1/2 year old bucks in the family unit right now that these bucks won't yet let join their brotherhood.) Love and affection constantly on display between the family. Subordinate does can be BITCHES, always jockeying for pecking order upgrade. Juvenile bucks may stick with the family unit, sometimes even into the 2-1/2 year rut. Does do not go into heat while their last year's fawns are around. A buck senses her latent estrus and will work himself to death trying to break her off of the family unit. Shortly after he does, she will go into estrus. Young does in their first estrus are quite confused about what is going on and they often come into the yard because even though they are confused about everything at this point, they remember that they are safe here...followed by the buck. As if being here will get that buck off of them. If she beds here (as they frequently do all year) he will bed with her, close to her, all night if need be, with me walking up to within twenty feet before both slowly rise and move off, slowly. He ain't going no where for any reason. He has a one track mind when he is locked up.

Executive summary: Deer are just big dogs, with horns.
