I have a tape trick I used many times over the years -- make a apron of masking tape under where you are drilling, chips/dust fall on tape and stick, fold tape on itself and dispose.

Works especially well in offices -- some office folks will have a cow :rant:if there is one speck of sheet rock dust left in their office.(I think some of them go out of their way to look...)

You have a new frame? I worked at Pilgrim power plant and stayed in Fall River, rented a room from a guy's ad on Craigslist. Still stay in touch with him. Anyway I was surprised how rusted out some of the vehicles were up there.
If you have a new frame, keep it clean it should last. I noticed tonight a few spots on my wifes 2013 that I should wire wheel clean and touch up.

How often did the coolant get changed? My approach has always been it the engine has a reputation for head gaskets change the coolant every 2 years.

Ahhh, the cordless vacuums of today are magnificent. Sometimes I have to work in the control room, everyone gets nervous. I have to be extra careful in there, where I'm drilling and cutting. Can't have chips getting somewhere and shorting something out, have to use extreme caution.

I'm not sure about that, or never heard that mentioned before about the coolant.
I have heard that when GM went to dexcool, they had all kinds of problems and had to reengineer gasket materials.

So then I ordered a "heavy duty" cordless drill and got this:

When you have dissimilar metals (block/head/gasket) in a liquid you have kind of created a battery. The inhibitors in the coolant keep the head gasket from being attacked. The inhibitors eventually wear down and the gasket is the weakest link.

Aluminum isn't nearly as good at resisting chemical attack as the old cast iron engines were.

Dexcool caused a bunch of problems early on, especially if it was used in an application that wasn't designed for it -- anything older.

Yup, just got it back 2 weeks ago. Odd that my wife's 2005 Rav4 had no rust to speak of much less rot after 15 years. The sheetmetal on mine is in pisser shape as well. I definitely plan to get it treated this fall.

    Yup, the old Deathcool..

Where I work, it's hurry up we needed it yesterday. After the work is done, it sits around for day or two before someone takes it.
I once told an engineer that if he needed it yesterday why didn't he bring it to me the day before yesterday.

At work I have a reputation of not being afraid of speaking my mind when it comes to how thing are being run. I'm careful about what I say. I make sure I have the facts before I speak.
