I own a 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4 door. Recently I have had an issue where I cannot lock or unlock my driver door using either the key fob OR keyless entry. All other doors unlock except my driver door. Additionally my truck beeps 5 times consecutively when attempting to unlock the doors. I also noticed that when I put my truck into drive, the same issue occurs where all doors automatically lock except my driver door. Doing some brief research I have concluded that this might either be an issue with a fuse or more likely, the door lock actuator has gone bad. Has anybody else experienced this issue with a 3rd gen and how did you fix the problem.

Just got back from the dealership, They wanted $140 to diagnose the electrical.

They found a bad door lock actuator. No surprise there.

They want $660 parts and labor and they have to order the part.

20,600 miles and 39 months I will just have to eat the cost.

Not too happy about it but what can you do

I have a 2016 TRD sport and having the same issue…does anyone think this can be resolved at a regular shop instead of the dealership? I guess i can just unlock drivers door with the hidden key thing inside fob but seems like a pain long term

I told my stereo/tint guy and he told me he could get an aftermarket one installed for under 200
Try some independent shops first or be prepared to fork out the $$$ at the dealer

I had this exact issue with my old 2016 4Runner. It is a common problem on lots of Toyotas. There is a little motor inside the door latch that had failed and needed to be replaced. Try manually locking one door at a time and then pressing the button. For example, I would manually lock the passenger front door and then hit the button on my fob and it would work. If I didn't manually lock that door first, the fob wouldn’t work and I wouldn’t hear a beep. Do one door at a time and if the fob works as normal, that is your failed latch. The latch as a whole is expensive, but the little motor inside is usually less than $10 bucks on Amazon or eBay. There are YouTube videos how to open the latch and replace the motor (this is the one I followed for opening the actuator)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AbRTg7L5nsE The motor in my 4Runner (same in almost every Toyota) was listed on Amazon as:
10mm Flat Shaft Central Door Lock Actuator Motor FC-280PC-22125 FLAT SHAFT, D Spindle, Power Locking Repair Engine

I've placed a few power window motors in my time but never a lock actuator. I can't imaging it being any harder. Removing the door trim was always the most confusing.

Why not purchase the part yourself and have someone put it in if you can't do it yourself?

Depending on the door, lock actuators can suck. Usually inline with the strike plate on the door. One on my moms CTS sucked.

Toyota latch actuators are pretty painless once you get the panel off. The latch actuator itself doesn’t have to be adjusted at all, it’s a straight bolt in part.

Driver door lock problem, Just spent $380.00 for new latch.. wasn't the problem, fuses under dash are good, checked wiring. I'm lost on idea's, hate to take to shop. door latch was easy to do, if you are thinking about it. Any idea where to look would be helpful.
    thanks

it's usually the actuator 99% of the time. Had the same issue in my first gen Tacoma as well as my RSX-S and I just went down to the local junkyard both times and pulled actuators for like $10

It's your actuator in the driver door.

Unfortunately, new doesn't always mean good.

Aside from that, here is the wiring diagram for the locks.
