    Hey all,

EDIT: How does your heavier wheel and tire setup affect vehicle drivability? How much heavier is your setup and what types of changes have you seen/felt?

The range i've seen from searching goes from "no effect" with heavy wheels to "1mpg difference" to "it drives like a slug, i needed to regear"

At first everything seemed fine. But then the nightmares started. And now I can barley eat. It's had such a huge affect on me.

Right! But, some people run this wheel versus that wheel with the same tire and may have different results. If you've got feedback after tire changes too, by all means feel free to include it.

I can only imagine, feel free to hit my DM's if you need some support, friend. :drunk:

The Rock Warrior 17” wheels with 265-70 Open Country ATIII tires are each 8lbs heavier, 32lbs in total, than the Beadlock 16” wheels with 265-75 Open Country ATII tires.

32 lbs of rotational weight is roughly 320lbs of chassis weight and the truck drives totally differently between both wheels.

I feel like there's way too many variables and too many anecdotes. I lost probably 1-2mpg w TRD semas and E rated tires.

Good to know, would you mind going more in depth on how the truck drives differently? I'm curious to know the actual driving variances as well.

ANY change at all is goin to result in a different ride

the sidewalls that give most of the ‘ feel ‘ feed back are VERY different on

    2 Different wheel sizes

    2 Different tyre sizes

of course they are going to ‘ride ‘ different SAME Vehicle

no less the ride on both can be change goin to a more Hi-Way street tyre

as opposed to an Off Road tyre

most can feel a difference of 2-4 psi.................

the prev responder is more than correct

TOO MANY VARIABLES to get to a rule o thumb

Tbh. It's too far gone. I have full skids, sliders bumper, tune etc. I don't even remember what stock feels like.

Unsprung wt is the enemy. You cant just consider the wheel unless you run an identical tire.

In a light car (Miata) and an experienced auto x driver, 3# per corner is about what can be felt.

I would assume a Tacoma would take more to feel.

But I also think most people buy tires/wheels more for looks than actual functional need.

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
When you say wheel, are you taking changing just the wheel (rim), and keeping the same tires? Or by wheel do you mean the combined weight of your wheel/tire setup? Yes, adding a heavier wheel will have an adverse effect, but the downsides come from a combination of wheel weight, tire weight, increased friction, and a larger rotating mass which is harder to start and stop moving; assuming you are thinking of going to a larger (heavier) tire too.

Aiye, I should have known better than to ask such a generalized question. Let me edit the original post and rephrase here as well:

How does your heavier wheel and tire setup affect vehicle drivability? How much heavier is your setup and what types of changes have you seen/felt?

    I didn't go heavier I went lighter.

19 offroad switched to f5's which are 7 pounds lighter per wheel with stock tires. I noticed right away the truck bogged less when it would sit at 1200 rpm driving 25-50mph. I honestly could not imagine switching to heavier wheels + tires, you can easily add 15-25 pounds per wheel in weight, and with stock gearing I imagine it drives like crap.

Unexpected but super helpful from the opposite end! I currently have the TRD SEMA wheels which are 25 pounds and I'm just questioning if vanity is worth the extra weight. Wheels the same weight or less are hard to find in any style that I like or without a super aggressive offset.

Interested as well, now that you bring it up. I had read before that 1lb wheel = 8lb chassis.

    If you include all 4 tires yes. 1lb x 4 x 2 = 8
