Anyone have the tundra rack along with jd fabs power steering pump kit installed? I currently have the tundra rack in, but was thinking of adding the Howe GM pump that JD fab is offering.

Anyone know what the "ideal" placement for this slip joint above the rag joint when setting up the column/linkage? All the way extended or in the middle?

Anyone know what the purpose is? Compensate for chassis / frame movement?...... or is something fucked up and I should not be able to move it when things are disconnected?

It appears to have 2inches of travel. And is sitting at around 1 5/8 as my truck is currently sitting. I'm pretty sure that washer is supposed to be captured at the top but popped out.
It looks like on my 2019 that there is 2" of exposed shaft, which on this 2013 would be maxed out.

I really can’t imagine trying to get these out without a plasma cutter. It took all of 5 minutes. God speed to those that attempt this without one.

I believe they’re extra, the guy I bought mine from just happened to have them. I agree though, very nice option to provide.

That shaft should be all the way extended to the firewall. When you pull it down you should see where its machined for the retainer. Its all part of the collapsable steering column, Toyota puts that tiny little retainer ring on there to keep it from moving in but the intent is so it doesn't cave your chest in in a bad accident, but also can slide down when you mess with the joints on the engine bay side. if your trying to get everything set ideally than it would be all the way extended out, it also allows for the telescoping steering column as well on the other end. I just tore a spare one apart and had a shaft machined to put a omp quick release on the shaft and get rid of the oem bolt on design.

I thought that may have been the case but thought it would be weird that they put in redundant collapsible sections since the bellow joint already does that.

Are there any obvious issues that could crop up leaving the shaft a little plunged in? Is that slip joint splined or is it just a telescoping hexagon tube?

the lower part is a splined shaft where as the upper is the splined tube. So honestly if it’s only in a small amount I don’t think it would make any difference the amount of slip up into the upper section is very long.

I'm in the middle of the install and thought I'd mention something noteworthy that I hadn't seen mentioned yet. The status of your engine mounts plays a role here. My 16-year-old mounts are sagging so bad I simply can't fit the rack. I ordered some solid mounts from this guy, the same ones Travis has. The truck will remain on jack stands for a few weeks while I wait for those to arrive.

I've got new drivetrain mounts in mine and it was still too close for comfort, I cut the cross member top off to be able to sit the rack down lower and shimmed it back up to get good clearance balance between the engine, diff housing, and frame near the rack input/steering shaft.
