I don’t think I’ve ever seen a power 5 beating like that one LSU gave to OU.

No one is bragging about their record against the SEC. I offered an objective rebuttal to your subjective claim. OU beat Saban ONCE... OU played Saban TWICE. Context is everything. I honestly don't get the Fla 3rd string excuse either, they made that decision, why would the opposing team be penalized for that choice by winning the game? And absolutely, LSU blew Oklahoma out of the water and it was painful to watch. That team was incredible, one of the best I've ever seen on the college level and my hat is off to the Tigers.

Again though, when you start off an argument with blaming officials for a team's success, it derails everything else. Every fanbase in every sport on this planet has grievances against other teams based on officiating. It has been that way since the dawn of time and will always be that way, I suspect. Believe me, many OU fans can't get past the Oregon game in the early 2000s, but it does nothing and accomplishes nothing.

Oklahoma fans have been spoiled for years and are in for a reality check come SEC play. Stiffer competition on a more regular basis will be a true test. FWIW, I've always enjoyed the WVU games, and I'd love to visit your state sometime because it looks beautiful.

If I'm a Texas or oklahomo fan I'm very excited about playing actual good teams instead of the rest of the shit 12.

You post that as if Texas is one of the good teams.

I feel bad for knocking UT all the time so I found some good news. They beat OU in althletic graduation rates. The bad news is they are both in the 25 worst in the country.

The SEC fit is looking better and better.

Find some more recent stats. Maybe OU has moved out of the bottom 5.

I don't know where Bleacher Report got those numbers. The article you reference is from 2013 and the NCAA GSR database goes to 2013 (for whatever reason, I couldn't find more recent numbers for either school), and the only 47 GSR I found in the database for Oklahoma football is from 2005. I wouldn't exactly consider Bleacher Report to be a credible source.

It's pretty widely accepted that all the top football schools are not about graduating the "student" athletes.

I have always believed there should be an NFL farm league, similar to MLB, where the top athletes coming out of HS, but not necessarily on a academic track, can immediately begin getting paid for their play. This would open up a bunch more scholarship opportunities for less talented minority athletes that do want an education to play for the colleges on scholarship.

It looks to be moving to a hybrid model where 1-4 college super conferences, effectively run by ESPN and maybe FOX, are quasi professional and have their own league, playoffs, etc, while the majority of schools play in an amateur league. It might work, we will see.

if the skilled players, that are not "academic", went into a farm league...then the overall skill level would drop by an immense amount in college football. then those teams wouldn't bring in the same kind of $$ they do because nobody wants to watch unskilled teams. so technically...I don't think you would see more scholarship opportunities open up for those that want an education.

I’m honestly surprised semi-pro hasn’t taken off for that simple reason. The NCAA is a joke, and there’s little interest among most athletes to also be students. Let’s not pretend like the NCAA is protecting the students’ interests, they’re protecting their bottom line.

Sure they are protecting the students' interests... all that interest that accrues... all the way to the bank.

The majority of colleges rely on alumni to fill the stadium. They would take a hit on TV revenues but would also have less expenses in coaches salaries, etc. That wouldn't change for most universities. The ones that would be impacted the most are the programs like the SEC (and those schools they are recruiting) where a large part of the fan base has no real connection to the school beyond the entertainment. States like AL, AR, MS, OK have no professional teams so the college teams fill the void. At any rate, it looks like that's where this all appears to be going. Some coaches like Dabo have already acknowledged it.

Also, "unskilled" is relative. Compared to the NFL, the best college teams are unskilled. Yet people watch.
