When I mention here, reference to Ziebart post I meant no one specifically on this thread but other threads.

    More observation than fact:

Years ago I used to do a lot of recreational junkyarding back when Ziebart was really popular (remember the "It's us or rust" commercials) it seemed (to me) that it did work to preserve the rocker panels and lower fenders/quarter panels and such. But I also noticed the treated vehicles would have rust in odd places higher up on the vehicle than usual.

Just some old memories from a time when you went looking for 4 barrel carburetors in the junkyard.

Can confirm the importance of rust/rot checking. Mine just got reframed.

That's right..mine is a 2010, originally put into service Sept/Oct 2009 (I forget the exact date, bought used but it was on the paperwork).

Found the exhaust hanger on passenger side near the TACOMA door badge falling late April and found 2 holes the size of a quarter..bottom of that rail and outside. Pushing with my 2 fingers on the outside one caved in a 1x2 inch hole.

I got the first inspect and CRC 3 years ago which qualified me for the final inspect before 12 years of first date of use, I called the dealer and explained what I found. Told me bring it right in. 3 months of waiting, I just got it back 2 weeks ago to the day.

    Good morning :pccoffee:
I enjoyed the movie. Was thinking on my drive into work this morning, if we had alien visitors, well...that would be everyone's worst nightmare, any kind of not friendly alien, especially a real nasty looking one...with lots of teeth.

Yes, higher up where the coating didn't reach. Possibly a poor job of applying the stuff but also just as far as they go with application.
The old Ford my grandfather had all those years did develop a small rust spot up high like that but they had it repaired free. Deal was though, I think you had to take the vehicle in yearly for inspection and touch up. So basically keep a truck 20 years $100.00 a year paid the repair bill. Who knows, I still think it helps.
The areas on my wifes truck that need attention are the bottom of rear leaf spring plate where gravel roads have knocked all the coating off.

In lieu of our glorious leader, I'll post some pictures of my hydraulic adventures today. This has been a four day saga now, we finally said f*ck it and pulled the whole pump and motor unit. 432258F3-321D-4C15-B445-44B3F0443376.jpg

on edit: we pulled the filters, here's what came out of one.9F64D04E-03BE-44AB-B2B1-8E22C6A55E36.jpg

That should help pump performance greatly. Wonder what the reservoir looks like, possibly time for drain, clean and fresh fluid?

Years ago working night shift a boss came to me, someone had told him I could weld -- yeah, right.

I taught  myself with a 120 volt stick job that looked like (and worked as well as) a battery charger.

Naturally (being young, dumb and wanting to impress the boss) I said "sure!" BTW: I was just a worker, there was a shift "Mechanic" but he couldn't weld.

Down in the Utilities shop I am faced with the same Migmaster 250 in your picture. There was no youtube back then and I had only read about Mig welders, never actually seen one. I turned the gas on (knew that much) and went to it - the machine was set on medium 5.
I welded the bracket and took it to the boss, he was pleased and I became his welding guy. :boom:Since I only had a hazy understanding of how the machine worked, every time I set it to medium 5 (didn't claim to be swift). Eventually I graduated to a Mechanic position and did more welding, one day someone had left a birds nest of wire in the feed, I open the cover to investigate:
:annoyed:there is a chart with the settings under the cover :annoyed:...

Reading your post, I looked back at his photo to see the welder. I just now realized that, not only does ESAB make a welder; but, I have never seen an ESAB welder before.

How common they are probably depends on what the local distributors carry, very popular around here.

ESAB is a world wide company, that Migmaster or the same machine branded as L-TEC is (maybe was) the Ford F-250 of factory shop welders. The machine I was referring to was purchased in the late 80's.

My last job we had the same machine, purchased in the late 90's. Great machine, maybe I will score one at an auction some day.

Right. As part of my job at Fastenal, I purchase weld wire from ESAB for a customer of ours. I figured it was a private labeled welder made by someone else; I had just never seen an ESAB welder before or knew they offered them. I have worked in weld shops before and have only ever seen Miller or Lincoln welders.
