    Like, so many.
I off roaded my 3rd gen Sport with just better tires. It did just fine. The suspension was definitely not as good as the OR, but don't let anyone tell you can't off road a Sport.

Same. Just pulled an F250 out of the mud/water. He was too big, so it wasn't really the TRD Sport that deserves the credit but if you find where the limit of the sport is and the OR will still go, you may be surprised. Lockers do make many low traction situations easier and lower risk, though. DCLB requires some careful line planning but I'd do it again given the choice.

I haven't read through all of the posts here but I'll provide my experience.

First off, I've never taken a sport off-road but that's irrelevant.

I've owned 3 Toyota trucks in my life time. See below:

Colorado trails, rocky, boulders, mountains, etc...
1.) 1980 Toyota pickup 32" tires (in my avatar): No traction control of any sorts. I wheeled it just fine but had some issues with traction if I got in high articulation situations. If you know how to use your brakes to force traction to the wheel that's slipping, this works well. Not as good as a locker or sometime of limited slip. Also, airing down tires does wonders. Also, upgrading from the stock tires is huge (I've always preferred the BFG A/T KO2's).

2.) 2000 Toyota Tacoma: Same situation as my 1980 except with 33" tires. No traction control of any sorts. When airing down the 33's, I had noticeably more traction. Still would slip in high articulation situations especially since the Tacoma's have independent front suspension as opposed to my 1980 that had a solid front suspension (solid front suspension keeps wheels on the ground better in articulation situations).

3.) 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro: Ok, so I have all the bells and whistles (minus crawl control because mine is a manual). Front A-trac, rear lockers. Wheeling this truck with stock tires and lockers/a-trac on.... NEVER slipped. It made things easy in regards to traction. So easy in fact, I didn't have to worry about slipping, ever.

Ok, the reason I went through this is simple. With my two first trucks with no traction control of any sorts, they were both capable off-roaders. You may need to bounce through things a bit more, you might have to play with your brakes a bit more... it's definitely less finesse when wheeling with a truck that doesn't have any traction control. However, the Sport does have limited slip and that will be better than my first two trucks. Sure you won't have ultimate traction like the OR and Pro, but you'll still have better than a truck w/out anything which should help get you through stuff. If you start wheeling on more gnarlier stuff, having a rear locker does wonders. Then again, if your definition of wheeling is going fast through dunes or small rollers, traction isn't important at all in regards to slipping and suspension is something you'll want to focus on.

I'm not sure if this helped but long story short, your Sport will do just fine wheeling. It's just not going to be as easy getting out of harder lines and situations compared to an OR or Pro that has the rear locker and sudo-front locker (A-trac for example).

    Check build thread!
IT'LL EXPLODE! DON'T DO IT MAN!

Kidding of course. It'll go almost everywhere a TRD OR will. Ask @Mrtacoman88 , he has a nice sport. The single biggest thing is the tires. Get a better set of tires from factory (doesn't need to be bigger, a more aggressive tread, the OR stock tires are a little better but not much, I love my falkens) and send it.

Sounds like a decent weekend plan. Hit Applebee’s, Red Lobster, and Cold Stone Creamery and load the Sport up with White Claws and singlemoms you met on Match.com “not looking for anything Serious”.

The sport is very capable, did my first trip to Moab this May in my '19 Sport and made it through big name trails like, Hell's Revenge, and Fins N Fings, and more with some 265/70/17's and some armor no body damage just a scraped up hitch.

Just go slow and work your way up you'll be surprised what the sport will do

    What are your off-road capabilities???

    To answer your question:

In the hands of an experienced 4 wheeler, a stock TRD sport is slightly less capable than a stock TRD Offroad.

In the hands of your average TW 3rd gen forum member, it doesn't make a fucking difference.

Being that the sport model has a hood scoop it's highly capable off road.
