For a second there I thought those were donuts in the picture :D. I fell in love with my dad's the moment I picked it up.

does anyone have picks of any 100th anniversary commemorative 1911s?

Larry, I think this might help you a little, I hope. I personally don't have much experience with springs nor had issues with any of my semiautos. Have you consulted a gunsmith on this yet?

That pistol was never meant for a womans hands. I usually keep my hands away from the businessend of any gun but I always had better luck using the front serrations on that pistol. Have you or the gf tried that?

Fell in love with the emp .40 cal. It came out about the same time that I was lookking for that springfield. And actually I was torn between buying one or the other. Glad I chose the operator and after reading pages of balistic reports, I don't know if I will ever buy a. 40 for personal defense. Imho I will take my G36 with 6 in the mag, 1 in the pipe. Over a 10+1 .40

I've been told that the heavier and slower the bullet, the longer it stays in the tube upon detonation. The muzzle will be rising as the slide moves backwards and the bullet is still in the tube, thus a higher than expected impact. :notsure:

Are you running the two piece FLGR (Full Length Guide Rod)? They are notorious for coming unscrewed after a few mags and can lock up the gun.
They also make disassembly more complicated requiring an allen wrench.

If using a FLGR, I'd recommend swapping out the FLGR for a GI Spec Guide rod and plug(around $25 from Ed Brown). You can re-use your recoil spring.

    Straight from Ed Brown's site:
"Most shooters set up the gun to suit themselves depending on their load, bullet weight and grip on the gun.
You should have the ejected brass land from five to ten feet away from your feet. If the brass falls on your feet,
or fails to eject, you need a lighter spring. If the brass lands fifteen to twenty feet away, you need a heavier spring.
It is always a good idea to have a replacement spring on hand."

None of this is first hand knowledge,

I believe Springfields are assembled in the US, just import their frames, and possibly slides, which are forged at Imbel in Brazil.

Kimber is probably 100% assembled in Yonkers NY, however last I heard their frames/slides were sourced from S&W. Even heard Caspian was/is a source at one time.

All three frame/slide sources are good quality.

Edit to add: Good read on Springfield's history.

The part about the kimber slides and frames makes sense, I'm currently looking at 1 kimber and 1 smith and wesson, and they are almost carbon copies. Other brands have subtle differences but these two only differ on price and namebadge

S&W also supplied the frame/slide for SIG's GSR.
