Meet Gracie, our newest hard luck case. My mother-in-law got her from a neighbor that took poor care of their animals. Gracie was always sneaking over to her house for better food and love, so when the neighbors were moving out she asked if she could just keep her. Unfortunately my mother-in-law has her own problems, and when Gracie got sick she couldn't keep up. The wife brought her here, and she spent last night at the vet.



Gracie has a bad skin infection on her back, so she got shaved a bit, a medicated bath, some antibiotics, a steroid, and some pain meds. She also got the cone of shame so she can't keep licking and biting herself. We expect about 10 days of meds and isolation will be needed, but she's safe and loved here.

You can't tell from the picture, but she's very small and a bit pudgy. We think she may have mild dwarfism. Either way, she's super cute and very affectionate.

The boys are aware that something is going on in the guest room, but they are not sure what yet.

 

Thank you taking her in and giving her a loving home. I’m sure when she gets to feeling better she’ll show you how grateful she is.

Gracie is doing much better today. The meds are working and she seems much more comfortable. We are able to take off her cone when one of us is with her, and she is not trying to get at the rash much at all. She's eating and sleeping a lot, and seems most comfortable when we are near.


The boys got a good look at her through the screen we have up to block off the second floor. They freaked a little, but she didn't bat an eye. We will take getting them all together very slow. All her blood work came back clean, but the boys are twice her size and everyone is armed.

Anyway, things are currently going in a very positive direction. So cute!

I took a little time this AM to give out some treats. The little one with black on chin is Sparrow. Pirate Kitty. He/she is one of the 2 more shy/scared/unsure about us humans but getting more brave by the day.

 

At this rate, people would pay good money to stay at your kitty haven. Themed Airbnb in your future?

The Boys got eyes on Gracie last evening. She passed out in the hallway and they stared quietly for a long time.



Gracie and my wife had a rough night, but everything is sorted now. Kitty had some problems with her new diet, and had diarrhea at 4:00 am. The wife was sleeping with her in the guest room, and it was a pretty big mess. Anyway, it's being cleaned while Gracie hangs with me in the home office. She's on dry food for awhile, but otherwise is still doing well.

 

But of much less questionable nature.

We've stayed in a rental with twin black cats before. We knew there were 2 cats but there was no mention that they looked identical Going from petting a dry cat to a wet one a few seconds later really trips you up when you're tired.
