My dad's 4 speed Atlas leaks more than my Inchworm setup.

I've come around to largely running lighter oil in most things I own and am not in the "run the heaviest oil you can" camp.

The biggest reasons are both flow and heat generation. Oil pressure is just a measure of a restriction in the oiling system, more is not always better. If you are running too thick of an oil, you may not be oiling (flowing) enough oil through the galleries to properly lube the rearmost main bearing on cold start or up to lifters...Same thought process about the pinion bearing in a diff or some of the upper bearings in a tcase, the thickness of the oil can actually starve bearings if things are cold. Happened to a handful of guys at KOH a few years ago when they were running super heavy gear oil without preheating and burned up thirds super early in the race.

Conversely once things are warmed up, thicker oil will actually run hotter than thinner oil because of the increased viscosity is more resistant to flowing and can thermally break down if its too thick for the application.

In the end it's all about having the right weight lube for the bearing clearances and application. 90w vs 140w probably isn't a huge deal in a tcase...Mine typically gets whatever is on sale or on the shelf at home.

I'm probably biased because I live in the north and have to deal with below zero temps regularly in a variety of equipment at work and home.

Or you buy one on craigslist from some guy you never met, ask him if it leaks, trust him, go, and find out he was honest. :)

Put my crawlboxes in my truck Monday, no oil.
Then drove about 15 miles, 5 on the freeway to CaliFab to have them installed.

This just popped up if anyone is looking for a used inchworm setup. Likely setup for an auto.

    Rad!

What made you go that route instead of just a doubler?
    M/T or A/T?

You're the third person that have a triple toyota case setup in a tacoma.

    What's your final crawl ratio?
    2.28x4.7 or 2.28x2.28?

The slower, the more control.... now that's how you walk your truck uphill.
