Thanks for your advice! I'll go for those CVJ remans with the high angle inner boots.

Is this something that needs to be taken care of right away or can I drive it while I wait for parts?

I could be wrong, but I remember hearing people having issues with the high angle boots.

    Reboot with the OEM kit.

Not a fan of the CVJ boots. The high angle orange/red boots are too thin and brittle and tear too easily. Not worth what they get for them.

IMO, the OEM boots in the kits hold up the best and are priced right.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
My 2 cents on CVs... rebuild your originals, and run them. Unless there is visible damage inside the knuckles or the bearings are bad.

Boot slide mod on Offroad Solutions inner boots

All Pro Offroad high angle outer boots.

I run them this way. And my son runs them this way as well.

    20200118_111824.jpg

I've literally put them through the ringer in some of the stickiest mud in California and driven them home (like this, because it was dark and I had no idea they were like this till the next morning) (the drive was close to 4 hours)

    20191215_112304.jpg

I cleaned them up and untwisted them... no issues.

    20191215_123124.jpg

I've run them for over 2 years with absolutely no issue.

stuff and things that make it better
The CVJ's are garbage, never lasted more than 5k, always tear at the same spot.

    Definition of embarrassing?

    That POWER/ECO button actually works . . .

I've only owned this truck for 7 years! o_O

I pressed it when I got the truck but the light is apparently burnt out. I assumed it was a "Tacoma feature" that my truck just did not have. Was needing to shit-n-git in traffic today and, after a Chrysler T&C Minivan walked off and left me too, I decided to hit the button.

Um . . . it actually works. I caught right up with her.

Gonna go hunt me some minivans next time out

It just adjusts the shift points so that you can rev higher in each gear before it shifts. I had a '99 Prerunner when I was 18/19, over 15 years ago. Kept the ECT button on all the time.

Talk about embarrassing, I actually thought at the time back then that it was some kind of button activated turbo

No Tacomaworld back in those days, but the guys on Yotatech got a good laugh when I brought up that one.

    ECT button?

Shit, I just hold gears with the MT and foot on the gas until the motor/transmission scream. When I get no forward momentum, I slam that stick to the next gear.

I really can't imagine what it's like to have my truck (transmission) make decisions for me...

After first I thought it was some sort of diff lock button. Tried it when I was stuck in the snow with some buddies and for some reason we thought it was working…. We were wayyy off lol

Anyone know anything about doing the tundra brake upgrade but with a softline instead of the hardline at the capiler?

I've heard that some have issues with the bajo bolt being too long/short or something. And others saying they sources a different bolt that would work from another kit?

I did the Tundra hardlines... because it's the brakes, and didn't the point in trying to save 20 bucks drilling out the banjo bolt (or what ever you do to that bolt... I don't know, and had no interest in finding out)

I'm not interested in it for the fact of saving money.
    More so for clearance.

I had a situation on the trail where the banjo bolt was contacting the bottom of my coilover on full stuff and full lock in some situations.
It ended up loosening the bolt and I lost a bunch of fluid.

That happened to me as well a couple years ago. Banjo bolt rubbed the bottom of my Kings and worked loose on the trail on the driver side. Lost fluid and only caught it because I caught a whiff of it when under my truck looking at something else at the camp site.

I've done a mod or two
Same thing happened to @m3bassman. None of us thought it was possible until it happened again after tightening it up. I think he came up with a simple solution for it though but I don't remember what it was.

Find oem in junkyards for around $50. Reboot if necessary.

Has CVJ quality gone down over the years? Thought TW was mostly fanboys of them. I personally did not have great experience with the reman steering rack.

Well good to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing that.

I figured tundra brakes would help fix it.

@m3bassman Did you do the hardline on the tundra brakes?

They are to long. I found a bolt that fit on the banjo , tighten down took it to a grinder , grind flat , take bolt off, then take drill with a bit that’s a little smaller than the banjo and drill into the top of the banjo to make it concave . I had to drill the holes on it a size bigger. Here is one I made off of a 01 Prerunner, not hard at all to make and works fine.image.jpg

I assume that's with the factory banjo bolt you had to do that on?
