MT Accumulator Delete Mod (ADM) and BS Thread

Bye bye stupid thing.

Shifting much, much improved.

 

I just got done with my first substantial drive after removing the POS Accumulator "training wheels". This truck rocks now! There's still some minor drivability issues that I'm sure could be fixed with a tune, but it feels SO GOOD to actually have full control over the clutch. I can only imagine the decision to implement the accumulator was made by school-trained engineers sitting a desk who probably have never driven a manual car/truck.

That, or some wizened guru who wanted to sacrifice clutch life for a bit of driveline dampening for newbies. It is a common thing on other brands. Just a big mistake, IMO.

 

I'm certain that I had more shocks to the driveline with the accumulator than without, especially when I first got the truck and was struggling to get used to it. Granted, the shocks weren't horrendous, thanks to the accumulator, but at that point it's only really remedying a problem that it itself created.

 

I know that I wasn't smooth when learning as a kid. But, I never had the impression of causing damage at any time. Friend's vehicle or my own.

I can only imagine that some seriously slow learning newbies or intentional abuse are the only real factors. For the newbies that struggle, there can only be a handful. The abusers, nothing is going to stop the damage there.

 

Y'all must be geniuses to pull this off in 1–2 hours. Overall, Dremel hack ADM took me over 5 hours, most of which was spent bleeding the clutch solo. Lurching greatly diminished, solid feel, and much better drivability!

Anyhow, since no one else mentioned it, an easier way to compress the plunger:

• 24mm impact socket
• 10" socket extension
• Pry bar

Attach socket to extension, insert into housing cavity.
Use socket as fulcrum for pry bar to compress the cylinder.

 

Solo is difficult.

All that matters is that you got it done successfully.

5hrs is a lot of beer.

Interesting. I've done one-man bleeds on brakes, but never thought about trying with the clutch. Apparently, it works!

The only thing I have tried other than a helper was a vacuum bleeder a couple times and failed miserably.

 

I did something similar to this

 

I prefer to push the clutch down and close the screw before pulling back up, it reduces the back and forth of the air in the lines.

But that off course requires a helper. I still use a bleed kit, which is just a bottle with a tube.

I get to bleed mine again, since the dealer did the squeak tsb and left me with a sponge for a pedal

 

Those are how I typical do them also. Of course, I like that I can reach both cylinders on my bike at the same time. Haha!

Today, I'm going to swap in a dremeled accumulator. I keep thinking about the safety wires that I used to hold the brake line elbow to the mounting plate.



That sucks that they left you with air.

 

They left brake fluid in the plastic kick panel and on the master mounting bracket as well.

Now i have to pull that damn heat shield again to bleed it

I just remember the bleed process as burpees.

 

Hopefully someone had a whistle on a lanyard and a stopwatch.
