More interior shots; Also, this Hummer does have the optional "Rear auxiliary A/C" (or at least it had it), but as I said before the owner told me that the A/C in pre-2006 H1s is not very efficient...

Some guy let me sit in his Hummer at the U.S. Diesel Truckin’ Nationals three years ago (September 2018; Raceway Park in New Jersey); This is a 2003 model, and I’m thinking that maybe the performance of the A/C system had been improved considering that these had been available to the civilian market for over a decade by 2003!

So, I went to the diesel truck show at Raceway Park for the first time in 2014 and was absolutely blown away; I went again in 2015 and 2016. All of those years, the event still filled the entire venue and there was even drag racing. One side was devoted to pickups and SUVs, while the other side of the drag strip was devoted to big rigs and other commercial trucks; It was quite possibly the biggest diesel truck even on the East Coast, and in 2015 to 2016 I was able to get free tickets from a guy I knew (tickets were normally $30 per person).

In 2017 or 2018, ownership of Raceway Park was transferred to a younger generation of the family that owned it, and they didn’t want to run it. They rented a significant amount of the property out to Copart or something, and drag racing ceased in 2018; I had just started working at the detail shop at the beginning of September, and I begged and pleaded with my new boss to let me have that Saturday off so I could go to that event. I did not regret taking off from work, but I regretted going to Raceway Park instead of the Keystone Madness van show…

I had lost contact with the guy who got me tickets, so I got stuck paying the same $30 for a hell of a lot less show; There was no drag racing, and even worse was the fact that it was only big rigs and commercial trucks. By July 2019 I had quit the detail shop, but I drove over an hour and a half up to Schuylkill County for the van show in September of that year because the diesel truck show was probably less than a third of its former glory.

Raceway Park was completely closed to the public for all events for all of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and I obviously did not go; In April 2021, I went for the first time in a year and a half, for the spring swap meet and car show, and I was thoroughly impressed.

However, I do not think I will be returning to the diesel truck show because it sucks; Keystone Madness is a closed event and you have to either have a van or know somebody in order to get in. Obviously, a Toyota Tacoma is not a van, but luckily I fall into the second category…

Some of you may remember the first time I went to Keystone Madness back in 2017, when I ran into trouble at the front gate with a bunch of grumpy guys who thought I was just some random outsider and looked like they were ready to chase me off the property when I asked where the “spectator parking” was. They changed their tune almost immediately when I name dropped the woman who ran the event, revealed that I’d been corresponding with her for weeks, and showed them text messages to prove it.

I did not attend Keystone Madness in 2018 because I stupidly decided to attend the diesel truck show in Jersey instead, but I was pretty much welcomed with open arms when I went again in September 2019.

In 2020, the event was cancelled because the insurance company for the Schuylkill Fairgrounds would not allow any events to take place due to COVID, but for 2021 my contact who runs assures me that the truck-in will be back; I have every intention of going!

Sorry to bring this up months later, but that's a Beretta! It's the much sportier 2-door version of a certain car you rented in the 1990s that only had an AM radio!

When l was young l remember a TV show called "Bowling For Dollars". The host of the shows name was Nick and can recall him getting busted for fixing the Pennsylvania Lottery, he switched out the ping pong balls for ones filled with water.

As funny as it sounds, my buddy's Mom was a bookie and ran a big numbers operation. I don't remember for sure but since the PA Lottery didn't pay out for that day l doubt she did either.

How long you figure that Beretta was sitting there before you happened upon it?

I think it had been there awhile as it was kinda sunk in the ground, you can even see the tire tracks on the trail that go around it.

I am guessing l took those pics about 15 years ago, you cant even get up to those trails anymore as the State changed the main roadway and blocked the entrance.
