    @Speedytech7
    @Wulf

    Being realistic, this isn't going to happen any time soon (maybe a year, or two if at all)

    Should a reverse triangulated 4 link be considered at all due to the massive overhang past the rear axle?

    Custom fabricated setup is still going to require a lot of work either which way, but I was asking because that would eliminate the need for an F150 gas tank and custom 4 link forward of the rear axle -

    Picture provided just to show how far out that rear end goes.

    Can't wait until Eimkeith finishes his 4 link.

    Been waiting for that for awhile now (even before I got my 4R)

    I haven't seen one in a loooong time. Probably not worth it, but it is possible. Apparently some one was making a kit for the 2 door jeeps

    Went to a few local bike stores today, their inventories were worse than car dealerships.

    I've only bought one bike in a shop back in high school. Wasn't a smart purchase. Was a Klein Mt bike and was $700 for a basic hard tail. Went back to building my own after that. Much more bike for the money that way.

    I'll likely end up doing that I just don't really want another project right now. I was looking for a few specific Surly models so I figured I'd hit some of their dealers and figured in the off chance they'd have something I'd go for it. It was worse than I thought though. One popular shop said they haven't gotten a new bike from any of their manufactures in just over a year. Every bike in there was a customer bike in for service.
    Everyone else just had low ends and kids bikes or beach cruisers. I have my eye on a couple auctions too. Going to sell my Sequoia, at least I know I can get good money back out of it so that's nice.

    Yup, seems like you have to blind order and wait 4-8 weeks in hopes that the bike is a good fit for you.

    I guess you may be able to sell it easily if it doesn't work out, though.

    The shops here are starting to have inventory on the floor again, but most of what I'm seeing is high-end road bikes. Not much help if you're looking for a Surly.

    Upside/downside of Surly is that their lineup doesn't change much year over year, so buying one used isn't much different from buying one new... but also used Surlys hold their value well.

    Check out Black Mountain Cycles (https://blackmtncycles.com/product-category/frames/) as well. Their lineup isn't as broad as Surly, but I've only heard good things about the frames they make.

    Yeah I wanted to try the newer Pack Rat but the non-disc LHT will work too. I like the Ogre and Troll but I'd want to ride one first, unless I scored one for an okay price because I can always flip it.
    I like some of the Crust and Rivendell frames but then I'm jumping into a project and most of them are perpetually out of stock anyway.

    Yeah, there is that. They have a few extended sizes (XL and XS in stock), but otherwise you're waiting. BMC tends to work in batches anyway--they get a shipping container of frames in, sell them, then order another. Companies that sizes often don't have the capital to order a new container until they've sold through their existing stock.

    Then again... some of the big brands are backordered just as far.

    A non-disk 26" LHT is basically a late '80s/early '90s MTB (or ATB, as they were called at the time) with a few more nubbins to hang racks and whatnot on. If you can find a Schwinn High Sierra, an '80s Trek 850 or pre-1994 930/950/970/990, or something similar in your size, you can make a really nice all-'rounder out of it. The best part is you'll get a rideable bike for maybe $200-300 and can upgrade as parts become available.

    If you want a Crust, get on their mailing list and follow them on Instagram. They're like BMC (and Rivendell is the same way, too)--the bikes come in waves and sell out almost immediately. The OG Bombora (with the steel fork; https://crustbikes.com/products/bombora) just came in a few days ago. If you want one and have the cash and your size is in stock, you should jump on it. I've got an Evasion Lite and I've been happy with it, but I think the steel-fork Crusts are really where it's at.
