20210614_194033.jpg Our TRD Off-Road is at a Toyota Collision center being repaired following an accident - We specified we wanted all OEM parts, but the OEM hood from toyota is on back order and has been delayed 4 times now. We are considering going with a non-OEM Keystone hood since we only have a rental car for a total of 30days.

Anyone else have this hood, is there any gaping, whistling, major cosmetic differences? If we go wit this hood we could have our vehicle back in a week, compared to who knows when with the OEM. We will be selling the vehicle when we get it back and wanted it to be a selling point that it was repaired with all OEM parts.

The accident wasn't our fault, a truck pulled out from a side street where the vehicle to the right of us was turning onto, apparently he didn't see us and we didn't see him until he was 5ft in-front of us (we had the right of way, he had a stop sign). Allstate is still faulting us %20, but since we filled a claim with our insurance they will be taking the case to Arbitration. There was over $18,000 in damages and surprisingly didn't total the vehicle. We were in the process of selling the truck when this happened - We will be working with a guy that puts together diminution of value cases. Any tips on how to deal with scummy insurance adjusters would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

If your plans are to sell it as soon as it’s fixed then get the aftermarket hood and call it a day. In today’s market I doubt that an aftermarket hood will effect your resale value at all.

Saw the picture, no skewp. Get whatever, do you even need a hood if it doesn't have a skewp?

I work in the collision repair industry (paint tech) and I can tell you we have good results with keystone sheet metal. Less so with plastic parts. Let the repair facility know you're going to be picky about fitment and refinish quality. Also make sure if your factory hood is seam sealed on the underside, they match that seam sealer as best as possible. If the repair facility does it's job, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between OEM and Keystone. Hope this helps.

Zero chance I would go with aftermarket. They are never the same. There is a reason that they are less. The shop I use won't deal with aftermarket parts because it takes them longer in time to make them work than it is worth. Not sure who is paying your rental car, but if it is the other company paying for car rental, I would expect them to extend. If it is your own, then I would ask since it isn't your fault the parts are not available. Most companies understand the supply issues going on. I would look for a used part before going aftermarket.

As for diminished value, good luck. It varies from state to state, but it is a simple math formula that starts at a high amount then you get deductions along the way until you are left with almost nothing.

I have never heard of someone being partially at fault, and seems strange that the other insurance company can make that decision. Must be something in your state. Was the other driver cited?

Thank you all for your polite comments and recommendations :D
We are in AZ, where it is a fault based state. I'm still waiting on the police report to see if the driver was cited - we were given a 'victims notice' from the officer but allstate completely disregarded that and said we still had time to brake since we hit their truck bed. Our collision assist didn't even go off/brake for us.

Did you have a dash cam? Curious if you were able to present the footage to Allstate and that's still their stance on it.

The value of your truck is already diminished, an aftermarket hood pales in comparison to the accident history and will have zero affect on the trucks new&reduced selling price.

Insurance adjusters only care about two things, what their computer screen shows them and how little they pay out. Their job performance/reviews/promotions are based on what they "pay out". The less they pay out the more valued employee they are.

Did any airbags deploy? Many insurance companies factor that in when the decide to "total out" a vehicle. What about "medical bills"? Allstate might be more cooperative if they hear certain words.

    Best of luck.

Who were you selling the truck to, private party or Carvana/Carmax etc..? Good chance that either the buyer will back out due to the accident or request a significant discount. If you don't have dashcam footage or a reliable third party witness, there's a good chance the partial at-fault will stick. The insurance could say you had a chance at avoiding the accident or decreasing the severity of it. They could say you had 5 feet to hit the brakes, or you were speeding. Unless you have more than circumstantial evidence, the other's insurance will try and alleviate some of their financial burden. Their job is to pay as little as possible.
This would also impact the diminished value claim you could file with their insurance. If you are found 20% at fault, then you could only request 80% of the diminished value.
As others have said, the choice of OEM vs after market parts doesn't affect the value after an accident. All that matters is the vehicle will now be reported as being in an accident.

I’m also in the industry. This is sound advise. Their platinum plus (CAPA) line is very good. I’ve used many of their body panels and they are night and day to certafit (sorta-fits). +1 for the seam sealer and a GOOD paint man. Make sure it is a networked Allstate repair facility and you will get lifetime warranty on corrosion in the event you plan to keep the truck. Many dealers’ used car managers won’t be able to tell a CAPA hood from OEM when it comes to repairs. And hardy any private party knows the difference. Once the liner and stickers are in place, it looks the exact same. And the paint will most likely be better than anything Toyota can do at the factory.

I would get a used hood from the junkyard before the aftermarket one.

They always try to say it was partially your fault. Stick to your guns and don't accept that.

I think your forgetting that most insurance policies that people have state they can use aftermarket or used parts. It’s not a matter of paying the least amount. People don’t want to spend more than they have to on insurance. If there is damage the insurance company has to return the vehicle back to is pre loss condition. I think it’s a joke to say that adjusters who pay the least are promoted or valued. That is a walking liability and will cost an insurance more in litigation then in cost savings off property damage. People assume most of money comes out of the property damage side of things, most of money paid out in claims are on the bodily injury side. A hood is a drop in the bucket.
