    Hello,

I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with 70,000 miles on it.
Yesterday I started the engine and when I press on the gas pedal, nothing happens and the engine light comes on. Turn it off and on a couple of times and this problem goes away.

Any fixes? This is NOT related to the recall problem at all. This is some kind of intermittent connection problem (electrical) I THINK.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Do you have a code reader or know someone who does?

Post the code up here, that will help a lot.

I had something similar in my '05 Impreza - turned out to be a loose connection on the induction coil. This after 1 garage hauled the back seat to check the fuel pump, had her for 3 days and finally towed 200km (120m) to another garage, who found and fixed it in minutes.
Obviously I know only a little more than sfa about my rigs - I was afraid he'd try to tell me to replace the Johnson rod...gotta have that...

Might be the tire pressure! No but really you need that code to properly track down the issue. Around here you can rent those handheld readers, at autozone I believe.

I had the same thing happen to my 07 Tacoma. What happened in my case was when they did the gas pedal recall on my truck they did not reconect the throttle wire correctly. It progressively got worse until all throttle was lost and I had to get towed 100 miles to the nearest dealership.

We see that in Hyundais sometimes- try the Throttle Position Sensor. If you've got a code, I have access to ALLDATA and can look it up.

    induction coil?
Thanks! Where is the induction coil? - Kiyote49

I wish I could tell you. I'm almost useless with engines, but I think on my Subie it was at least visible/near top of engine. I guess that doesn't really help at all, does it?
    Sorry, and good luck

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Tacomas don't have an induction coil. Each cylinder has it's it own dedicated ignition coil. OP, you need to get the code read before we are able to fully help you.

Go to the local parts store (autozone, pep boys, etc...) and GET THE CODE!!!

I work in a service department and get calls like this all the time:
    "hello, is this service? "
yes it is- how can I help you?
"hi, yes, well my check engine lamp is on- what's wrong with my car? is it safe to drive?"
well, there are over 150 sensors in the car- is the light flashing or just on solid?
"listen, I just want to know if the car's ok!"
sir/maam- just put the phone on the hood of the car and I'll diagnose it for you....
