I got the ultraterrains. 265/75/16. I ended up getting 16 mpg, mostly city driving. 17 if I'm doing highway. Having a softopper doesn't help.

I rarely see dirt in the taco, maybe once or twice camping or an occasional bike ride. So I'm not a good judge on how it does off road. Heck now that I think about it. I've maybe put 1000 miles on it since I bought it couple months ago. Been working from home for the past year and a half. So I guess my opinion isn't worth much. Haha

But so far I'm happy with the ultraterrains.

^^^^ This. I think the aero of an ST and the weight of a cab height canopy make them a push on MPGs.

I think they could possibly reshape it to drop the last bow down a bit. IMHO, it acts like a spoiler?

But, I do love the ST regardless. Nothing else even tempts me anymore.

Softopper don't give a shit about MPG. Haha.

Not enough MPG loss will make me get rid of the softopper......well not totally....

Exactly. That's the TL;DR right there.

Wheels and tires showed up today. LOVE THE LOOK! Initial ride quality is nice. They're also pretty quiet. I'll continue to update as time goes on. But it looks SICK!

Yeah I thought the ride was ALOT smoother than the stock Goodyears. Just changed the oil and im cruisin at 18-19mpg. I really dog these tires.

Very nice OP. I have the same rims and tires but in 285/70R17 going on a '22 OR. I also got the dealer to pay me $2500 to trade in my Subaru Crosstrek after owning for 7 months, lol. At this rate, I'll be in a Lamborghini by 2024.

I came from an F150 with Toyo Open Country AT2's then put AT3's on the Crosstrek. I almost got them for the tacoma but didn't like they way they looked. I don't enjoy the beefy MT's and I also don't need them. I need 3 peak rated tires. And some are just too aggresive looking, but the OC's were not aggressive enough. I feel the stock goodyears would have looked better than the AT3's. Anyways, as soon as the lift gets in they are going on. Hopefully very soon because it's starting to snow and I don't trust these stock tires. Honestly, I almost went with studded snow's on stock rims but against my better judgement I chose normal tires. Next winter I'll be smarter ;) Will post pics soon.

I had an order with Discount Tire for Falken Wildpeaks that I just cancelled. I need to mull this over. I had my mind set on the Falkens, but started looking at the Ultraterrain ATs just yesterday. Looking at SL models:
    • Similar tread pattern, Ultraterrains (UTs) are 2/32" deeper
    • Similar sidewall with Wildpeaks (WPs) slightly more aggressing
    • UTs weight 4 pounds less in 265/75/16 (40 pounds vs. 44 on WPs). Wondering what sort of durability you may be giving up with the less weight though. There is a reason all-terrains weigh more!
    • At Discount Tire list price, UTs are $200 less on a set of 4 and that is before any promotions since they rarely if ever do promotions on the WPs.
    • Both have the 3 peak rating.
I'm sticking with my stock Offroad tires for now while I think about it.

I would avoid the peaks. Mine are already dry rotted and are a bitch the balance. They were an okay tire when they were cheaper but now they are the same price as higher end tires.

Fwiw, I went stock size Ultras because $6+ gas in SoCal and couldn’t be happier. Spent the last 8 daze in central Baja aired down to 22psi for the washboard and sand and they performed great. Zero road noise on the asphalt.

Well I'm gonna throw another option at you! Yokohama Geolandar G015. I have these on my newest Taco. Paired with Method 316s. Not as aggressive as most A/Ts but so far I'm very happy with them. Pretty quiet with great ride quality. I don't do any offroading really. Maybe a gravel road now and then. (I have an ATV) My dude at Discount Tire actually talked me into these. 55,000 mile warranty. I was going to go with the Ultraterrains again but they still didn't have a mileage warranty(IDK if that is the case still).

The Ultraterrains are a good Tire IMO. Snow traction was incredible. Never had to put the Taco in 4WD even with 8-10" on the ground. Didn't get as good of mileage with the Ultraterrains as I did with the Wildpeaks. The main problem with the Wildpeaks is they're are a "know tire" now and the price reflects that. Im sure my buddy @tonered would buy the Wildpeaks again if the price was right...Hope this helps...
