Well that's a new one. I've seen tools left in the engine bay before but it's usually "oh wow, can't believe that's still there."

Yea it is kind of unbelievable that it was sitting there at the bottom and we found it. It wasn’t even like some little shop either this was the Toyota dealership that did it. When we found that it was like 10 mins till close and we had them on the phone right away. They sent tow truck our way since we don’t live where I had it serviced. I guess I’ll know more in the morning. It’s a sad sight to see the truck go away like that though.

Well its not that I don't know how to, its just a lot easier to take it to the dealership. My family has always taken their cars to the dealership to get maintenance done. We've done the instal of all my upgrades/accessories ourselves though.

I wonder how tight the previous guy put the oil filter on that they needed to use a wrench to get it off? I always finger tight them so I can remove them without tools later on.

I've never been able to get the filter on my truck off by hand, and I install it by hand.

    Yeah.
I always just did what it said on the side of the filter, pretty sure it was 3/4 turn beyond where the gasket touches. I do miss the ease of the 2nd gen filter. The 3rd gen cartridge isn't hard, just not as convenient.

This is what I did on my Tacoma and do on my 4Runner. The cartridges for my Camry and wife's 4Runner have specific torque settings but they always seem to require much more torque to remove than to install. I've been told the heat tightens them.

Every time I do mine I tell myself I'm going to get a PVC hose of the correct diameter to slip over the drain fitting and keep it with my oil change supplies. Haven't done it yet.

    Yeah.
Yeah, and I always have to put a strap wrench on the plastic housing to keep it from spinning when I loosen the cartridge drain.

I started with a Solo cup propped under it. I eventually remembered to grab some fuel line at the part store and started running that down to the drain pan.

So @HDMOTT, did that tool get flung into the back side of your radiator and puncture it?

A new 3rd genner just posted a pic of coolant splashed all over his engine bay and a torn up serpentine belt. Brand-new truck. Glad I don't need a new vehicle right now, not sure these pandemic-built vehicles are getting the same attention to quality.

@TenBeers I honestly don’t know what happened but that’s what I suspect. All I know was I found that tool in the fan shroud, the fan was destroyed, and the radiator has a puncture. Also just got news that the tow truck didn’t even take it to the right place last night, and nobody at the Toyota dealership knew where my truck was for a little while.

I'm guessing this was Caldwell Toyota in Conway.....that's where I bought my truck, but never took it there for service after the first free oil changes.

I don’t wanna say anything bad about the dealer I’m sure it was all just a mistake and hopefully they will take care of everything.

Understand wanting to reserve judgement for now but if they don't make it right please do say something bad about them so the rest of us can steer clear.

Always make sure to lube the o ring on the filters also. Oem filters come prelubed but I've member seen an aftermarket. 3/4 of a turn from the o ring touching is more than sufficient.
