Another interesting shipping event, last one was that my shocks came from the small town I had just visited, now this package (new composite toe Timberlands) is currently in Shane’s town!

 

Nearly had one of our band saws detonate today. Still early in the day, so it may happen yet with another one.

 

Oh, shit. Is that on the weld?

 

WTF?

 

That would have woken folks up!

 

It's on a weld where it had cracked before and was repaired. We counted five such repairs on that band and three were starting to crack again. That one was the nail in the coffin though.

 

Kernersville is a hub, so it more than likely is going strait down to the Orlando hub and be delivered to you

 

Kind of specialized for an 'only mill'.... but if I already had a nice combination unit, that would be a great addition; price seems reasonable too.

 

Cuts in both directions or reversible blade?

 

Wtf?! Don't those generally have to be scrapped when they break the first time?!

Good question. I know here at work machine shop has 2 BSB welders. It works like a spot welding machine, for my ignorance best way to describe it. Clamp blade ends in machine with spring tension pushing together on the ends, then push the weld button and it does its thing. Afterwards you grind it smooth and then perhaps most importantly and somewhat critical temperature the weld must be annealed. Dark Cherry Red sometimes you pump the annealing button a. Little after the dark cherry red, so it cools slower.

 

When I read the picture with caption, might have been coworkers wondering what I was looking at so funny.

 

Cuts in both directions. A hydraulic carriage carries the log back and forth past the saw making a cut with each pass as needed.

 

It's pretty common actually to get small stress cracks in the band saw. If it fully broke in half we would certainly scrap it though. We usually catch the cracks when they're maybe an inch or two long since these get sharpened every night.

 

That’s about where it should be for these.

 

You should take a scrapped blade and make us all knife blades! What do you do with them if you have to scrap them?
