Gotcha. Even if mine showed up when the dealer originally expected (~8/16) I'd still be stuck waiting until no earlier than the following Friday--in the process of moving 2+hrs up the coast and start new job there on the 16th. Like counting down go Christmas day and then having to wait for the rest of the family to wake up before diving in

    Exactly! It's exciting!
I need to sell my 2010 quick. I'd like to use that money as the down payment.

Still waiting, supposed to roll off the line on August 11th. Delivery sometime in September. Ordered it in June. Took all year to find a dealer who would actually spend the time getting what I want. About $2,000 under MSRP.

I feel your pain. I searched hi and low for a dealer to order what I want. They all were a hard "no". It was take whatever we get or good luck.
Luckily I came across a connection from a friend who knows the sales manager at a local dealer who was more than willing to get what I want.

They will definitely take a deposit but that’s just it. Your dealer should have gotten the emails informing them of the prospective dates for when 21 allocations will stop. Depending on model and package your wanting it will be the exact same thing. They will take your deposit and wish and wait for an allocation when the time does come. Still the same process as someone walking into another dealer in a month or two after you placed a deposit that may get better allocations due to sales and get his sooner. It’s all about allocations and if your dealer can get it allocated. Higher volume dealers are usually more prone to get more volume and allocations. It’s a sales tactic to get a deposit for a future sale. They won’t give you any dates or show you anything in the system because they aren’t even released to the dealers yet. Not to steer you wrong just letting you know the road your going down when you do. If your patient and really not anxious for it then place the deposit with a sales sheet that states 2022 with sale price and make sure the manager signs it. Then sit back, go on vacation and try as much as you can to forget about it because it can be a very very long road. Members have posted that they have waited almost a year. So be prepared. Very prepared.

Question for anyone who ordered premium package with leather seats...

On the first page of my order spec sheet my dealer sent me upon allocation (this is that sheet that includes the temp vin and all other specs), it lists the premium package for $3,375 (reflected in the total price) and the leather seats in two places as I requested.
    Spec Sheet - Leather.jpg Spec Sheet - Premium.jpg

However, on the second page under the full list of all features it says "fabric trimmed seats".

    Spec Sheet - Fabric.jpg

A similar thing occurs when I put my temp VIN on Toyota's website. It lists the interior color as Black/gunmetal (indicative of leather) as well as the premium package itself in the installed equipment section.

    Temp Vin - Black:gunmetal.jpg Temp Vin - Premium.jpg

However, lower on the page it lists "Fabric Trimmed Seats" again.

    Temp Vin - Fabric.jpg

What I'm assuming is that I am getting the leather seats and premium package since it is reflected in the final cost, and that the "fabric trimmed seats" text is just something that is on every Tacoma spec sheet no matter what. I asked my dealer and he told me not to worry about it, but he doesn't understand... when you wait months for a truck, the only thing you can do is get excited and worry about it hahaha.

Anyway, anyone else out there see this inconsistency happen on their spec sheet?

I am in same situation, I deposited $1000 on June 30th for SR5 4X4. They told i will get it around august 30th. I feel they fooling with me. so i ask temp vin and production date. They do not have any. Then i went hard to sales lady. She told i can only talk to her not sales manger. then i sent her nasty email. then she ask manager to talk to me. He was same BS. I literately told You fool with me. Afther talking to him. i sent following mail.

    "Hi XXX
It was nice to talk to you. During discussion i wanted tell you following. If we are going to get truck by end of this month we must have temporary vin with build date of Aug 15th or earlier as it take 2 weeks to get delver from Mexico trough Houston, gulf state distribution center. Everyone else who ordered with me around (TN and TX) has temp win and build date. Once order in Toyota system built date and Temp vin (place holder vin) is assigned. We can check the status of temp vin. It stop working after truck is built and permanent vin is assigned.
    Thanks"

He may know i am not fooled by them.

"Ordered" 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4 DCSB V6 AT in Cement w/ options.

Inquired with dealer: July 16, 2021 (on a similarly optioned truck that was posted on the Dealer website -- turned out to already have deposit on it)

Placed deposit: July 17, 2021 (on an "ordered" truck with specific options)

Toyota "finalized" build: July 26, 2021
    - Received build sheet with temp VIN
    - Dealer stated build date would be between September 1, 2021 - September 8, 2021. Also stated delivery to dealership late September early October.
    - Further analysis: Temp VIN shows Texas plant and build date being 34th week (~August 22, 2021) (we shall see :))
Update from dealer today (August 5, 2021): "Scheduled" build date between September 7, 2021 - September 14, 2021 (possibly backlogged factory production?)

    ----

From what I've seen on the forum recently, lucky people have been able to have their truck built one month after deposit and delivered ~20-30 days after build date. So far, dealer sales person has been very responsive and upfront (hopefully stays that way).

Thanks for this! I’m hoping the fact that I’m not asking for anything difficult like a manual transmission or a long bed etc and just want an off road in lunar rock will help me out a tiny bit with the wait.

I’m still playing the waiting game, been 97 days and still have not heard of a build date, hoping one of these days that I’ll just get a call saying “come pick it up”. I just can’t/won’t spend that kind of money on an automatic trans truck.

It’s been 103 days for me. I’m hoping that it will just magically appear one day.

I am not sure about you getting truck in Augusts. They are playing same game. I deposited 1000 for SR5 4 by 4 , they told i will get Aug 25th. no built date on vin. i called more than 10 times, talk to managers all same BS. I feel our business is done deal now, So they only worry about new business.

I understand your pain! You've inspired me. I'm going to drop by my dealer this morning and see if they dig their heels in. Maybe I'll get some info.

I called once a month the first two months to see if an allocation had been secured. The third month I just stopped by. That is when I was given a temp vin, build date/week and told they typically saw their vehicles arrive ~2 weeks after actually being built. That said, when I went in to "order" the truck, I was up front that I knew the situation and expected a 3-4mo wait. Pretty sure my acknowledgement/acceptance of that fact went a long way with them since I've had no run around from the salesman or the sales manager I've worked with. Once my temp vin is no longer working (truck has be built) I'll give them a call and see if they still expect delivery to take two weeks.
