Good question. I know here at work machine shop has 2 BSB welders. It works like a spot welding machine, for my ignorance best way to describe it. Clamp blade ends in machine with spring tension pushing together on the ends, then push the weld button and it does its thing. Afterwards you grind it smooth and then perhaps most importantly and somewhat critical temperature the weld must be annealed. Dark Cherry Red sometimes you pump the annealing button a. Little after the dark cherry red, so it cools slower.

When I read the picture with caption, might have been coworkers wondering what I was looking at so funny.

Cuts in both directions. A hydraulic carriage carries the log back and forth past the saw making a cut with each pass as needed.

It's pretty common actually to get small stress cracks in the band saw. If it fully broke in half we would certainly scrap it though. We usually catch the cracks when they're maybe an inch or two long since these get sharpened every night.

You should take a scrapped blade and make us all knife blades! :D What do you do with them if you have to scrap them?

I've seen that done. Fastenal Industrial Services makes custom bandsaw blades. Our techs use Lenox blade stock and go take a week long training course at Lenox. Pretty sure they even use Lenox welding machines.

We toss them in a scrap metal bin and our local metal recycler comes to get it when it's full. I'll see what I can do, it's not good knife metal really since the actual tips are carbide inserts I believe.

You cut them out of the blade material, not where the teeth are.

I get that, I just don't think the metal they're made of would be good for it. Too flexible I'd think.

I believe you are right, to hold an edge the material needs to be hard, along with hard comes brittle.
With carbide teeth it probably would make a nice little saw blade for pruning small branches though.

    Divining rods.
The other day Google machinist questions for interviewees and one guy suggested ask if they can find water underground with branch from willow tree:rofl:
I'm not sure if a branch(s) would work but it boggles my mind it works with a couple pieces of wire.

^Ive seen it work with one piece of wire placed loosely in the hand. That's a pretty cool trick to pull out on somebody.

I'm no longer wondering why this cylinder on the locking pins in our loader is blowing hydraulic everywhere. 60E78C77-8401-487A-AB98-A1DF01425664.jpgF128285C-3AD7-4F1B-8E30-2FB6D5FA6337.jpg95B480D1-3E63-4296-A52F-F904CA060E1E.jpg
