Hi, is there anyway to use waze or a better navigation map than the built in nav of a 2018 tacoma. I can't get Android Auto to work. I don't know if it makes a difference but the truck has the premium pacakage. I believe it's Entune 3.0. The built in one works ok, but it's not accurate sometimes. I'll be in the parking lot of a destination and it says I'm 2 miles away. I can connect my phone (galaxy s7) by bluetooth. Making phone calls works but weather and traffic ask for data even when plugged into the usb. Thanks for any ideas or help.

18 is entune 2.0 and not android auto capable. To get the apps to show on the screen you need an aftermarket head unit with Android Auto or an entune 3.0 head unit.

I think Android Auto requires a USB connection w/Bluetooth enabled. Plus you have to enable Android Auto in the actual Taco settings.

Android Auto wasn't available in the Tacoma until 2020.

I found my navigation has learned. Today I went to a favorite brewery of mine and it took me the most direct route. Last time it unnecessarily zig-zagged me through town.

Fair point. I wish I had Android Auto capability.

I don't know about that. It worked one time but every time I tried using it since it's been a pain. I just turn on Waze and adjust my cell holder. Seems to be much easier, just a smaller screen.

I just like having good navigation I can put on the screen. Nice thing about the stock one is at least I can save my battery.

That’s because it was checking to see if you might be drunk. It wanted to test you. Now it knows you don’t get blitzed until you get to the brewery. See if it will now take you home!!

Take your fast charge cable and buy one of these. Put the usb into the red port and no worries about battery life.

I appreciate it. But it's more about saving the battery and also not killing it by constantly having it plugged in while using heavy resources as GPS typically requires.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
What the he77 did we all do before these digital devices came into common usage?
The current and future generations aren't going to be able find their way out of the neighborhood if all the devices get fried.
They sure as he77 won't be able to read a map, never mind have a reasonably reliable sense of direction.
I'll concede that GPS navigation is useful, but I still peruse a map before I head out into unfamiliar territory. I get perverse pleasure out of confounding my Taco's navigation system when I have a better sense of where I'm going than it does.

Handheld GPS's are cheap, map upgradable, and will issue audio commands for route guidance.
(I also have a wife that issues commands)

Yeah, I was satisfied with the way entune navigation looked, the traffic integration, inputting addresses/coordinates, etc. The problem was, the actual navigation left a bit to be desired. The thing was send me to locations multiple ways (and not because of traffic). It just had some weird algorithms going on. As if the sound quality of the stereo was not enough, it was even more reason to swap out the head unit.

I have to agree that the route chosen by the Nav system really questions the logic of the algorithm used. This is why in many cases I consult a map first to get a general idea of where my destination is.
I'm far beyond the audiophile days of having a quadrophonic tape deck with multiple speakers (guess my age!). Now I just want to be able to listen to my local AM station and a few FM public radio stations. On rare occasions I'll search for some '70s-'90s rock. The stock unit suits me just fine. Judging from the head swap challenges I've read about here it's not something I would consider.

I use the Rand-McNally system for cross-country road travel.

Battery never dies. Never needs to re-calculate. Only needs updates about every 5+ years, most times much longer.

Only downside is I need to stop to read it. But the wife is always willing to tell me where to go.......

GPS is an acronym for "Nearly Lost" or "Almost There"

I live in the mountains and there are lots of places I don’t get Apple or Google maps, so I will use the Toyota Navigation until I get to a known area. The system is aways off on time, and hour drive will show 70 minutes, a 3 hour drive with show 3.5 hours, there is always stopped traffic along the route when there is none. Also for a download system, the information is really not up to date, hell the Rio Grande river has been around a long time, but it’s not on the map in places.
One of the things that really pisses me off about it, is Toyota screen information, if I plug my phone in, CarPlay or Toyota will not let my signal strength display on the screen, so if I am waiting on a call, need or want to make a call, I have to go to CarPlay or unplug my phone to know when the phone has a signal.
