:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch People! Hoping to keep that rain down South for a while, I want to run my paver pickup, and who wants bags of wet paver sand? Not me! Was down in New Braunfels yesterday to check out a high lift jack at HF, and they didn't have it. Looked online at home; it's in "clearance", so if I want to save like $40 on one, I need to go to Bastrop HF too. So after some more recycling, looks like another road trip. And another project....

I usually fill up the Taco at 1/2 tank, but was below. Since it's $2.95 at my Valero, I waited to check San Marcos and NB on my errands yesterday. $2.52 in New Branufels. That's a ridiculous difference.
    Happy Thirsty Thursday everyone.

Gas is $3.80+ around here. We are usually the lowest in the state.

As you say, that's a ridiculous difference.

$3.80 for gas and Texas $2.52 for gas? We got ya beat here in California. $4.15 here for regular at Arco which is generally the cheapest except COSTCO Is a little cheaper. At stations like Shell and Chevron $4.50 plus for regular. I may start driving to Texas to fill up. Amazing just 8 or 9 months ago it was $1.50 plus a gallon cheaper here. Hmmmm I wonder what caused this? Probably a subject we should drop before we get in trouble here.

No reason to worry about subject matter. It's strictly supply and demand. During the suggested restrictions on movement due to the pandemic the oil industry took a while to wind down their operations which built up supplies... as people quit going out and demand reduced. Now the opposite is happening. Demand is immediate as people hit the roads and supply is slow while the oil companies gear up.

With the new strain becoming such a problem people may decide to stay home again, at least those that understand why the pandemic is becoming problematic again.

Guys and gals... get your damn vaccinations. This would be over with if it wasn't for people making bad decisions.

There’s more to it than just supply and demand. A close friend is a retired Chevron executive, he gave me a thorough explanation of it. Yes what you say is true but there is much more to it.
Proud to say my wife and I got vaccinated months ago. We don’t hang out with the unvaccinated. I agree get the jab!

Most of that difference is probably taxes.

Yep, a lot of it is. The people of this great state voted to increase our gas taxes a year or so ago. Fact - Our gas taxes are the highest in the nation.

Something to remember, and it effects the price of motor fuels nationwide wide. Petroleum is taxed every step of the way from production to final retail sale.

Some are direct taxes. Others are taxes paid by the various companies involved in every step.

Think about it. Business pays a multitude of taxes these are reflected in the price of the petroleum. These include every tax paid including payroll taxes.

So if a trucking company pays taxes on the fuel they by to run their truck that are used to haul gasoline to the station, those taxes are reflected in the price of the fuel.

Of course some will say “but those are paid by the company”. Every penny that every level of government get comes from the individual citizens.

For those that say not tariffs, who do you think the foreign company passes those along to.

Got the truck back from servicing yesterday. New park/neutral switch fixed the cruise, new passenger seat belt was less than expected. Everything else good. Not bad for an '06 w/265k on the clock.

    Good morning everyone!!

I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for a new extension center for the college I worked at. Signing the lease last year was one of the last things I did before retiring as president. What an awesome job they did on the construction. It will be the new home for our Petroleum and Natural Gas Center as well as a full service location for certificates and degrees - located in Tunkhannock, PA. Turns out the husband of the new Center Director has a Tacoma and is here on TW. She's a rock star who's worked for us for years in our business office. I'm totally impressed with what she's done already to get the center up and running. Great morning.

Crewed another hot air balloon flight last night. Two in a row...and hoping for another tonight, tomorrow night and Sunday night.

    Grass cutting for me today.

    Be safe out there!!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch People! Didn't mean to start a to do about the gas, just find it somewhat ridiculous that 40 cents per gallon savings can be had 40 miles from the house. Last comment is that difference is generally the individual owner/operator. There are not many stations owned by the gas companies anymore. Yesterday was a bust. And it's mowing day for me, too.

Have a great Friday everyone.

    Morning all:
Got up a little early this morning, did the usual morning routine and then went to get a new photo drivers lic. Got there about 40 minutes early and was first in line, in and out and good to go for awhile.

    Good morning everyone!!

Great flight last night - hopefully have another tonight.

Unfortunately, I ran over something in the road about two miles from the house headed to the flight. Luckily, tire pressure held and I was able to limp slowly back home with the truck and switch to Lynn's car for the flight.

    Flat.jpg

Back to reality this morning. Tire is now flat. Went out to the garage, found the plugs and glue....can't find the awl or puller. Might have left them in the mower garage. Who knows? F*ck!! Lesson learned. Off to AutoZone this morning to get several kits. At least it's a front tire so I can fix it on the truck.

    Be safe out there!!

I can actually head out 438 and avoid 107...which really is a mess.

Good news, though. I hopped on the ATV and rode down to the barn garage - found an unopened tire repair kit so I'm golden for now.

Good report on the Lexus, needs a front caliper, and rear brakes. It has 4 wheel disc brakes, plus small rear drum brakes also, for emergency brakes, so pads and shoes. Other than normal service items, it's good to go. I want to keep it in good shape, need two vehicles out here in the boonies..

A polar vortex winter storm stranded us here in Jan. 1994.. trees, poles down across roads, no communication, power. If it wasn't for the Tacoma, chain saw, and my lineman gloves, we would have been up the creek. I poured 1/2 gal. antifreeze in the toilets, (it was -32°F) and we left. We cleared a path through 2 miles of roadway, got us to US-50, used GPS to find us a motel 30 miles away. We waited in the lobby, got some hot food, until a room was available. It was 7 days before we could return home.. spent Christmas in the motel. Wife understands now, why I prepare for the worst, hope for the best. We were both prepared, go bags packed.

Amazing how tires seem find stuff like that Mark, I have fixed both front and rear punctures without having to remove the rim and tire from the truck.
I haven't had a puncture in awhile, probably due! :fingerscrossed:

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! Todays word is pavers. And sand. Well, todays words are pavers and sand.

That looks like the spring for a lawn mower exhaust chute. Where's the rest of it? Glad you found a plug. Happy day, y'all!
