I’ve never had that set up either so kinda curious as well. To me, if I’m going to add that much weight I would consider the lpvo and have different magnification levels. Everybody figures out what’s best for them though kinda the beauty of so many options

yes, can flip magnifier out of the way and I'm way faster with a non magnified Eotech than an LPVO on 1x(yes both eyes open). When I run LPVO I put a micro red on 45 deg angle and keep the LPVO magnification up.

I'm training with an Aimpoint and a Magnifier but that big ass window and reticle on Eotech is still fastest for me. But I'll keep training to get my Aimpoint speeds up. I run a shot timer and hit steel at 50 yards from high ready or low ready.

I have both setups and it depends on what you expect to be doing with the rifle. To me red dot w/ magnifier is better if you expect to be doing mostly close but there's a possibility for occasional mid range shooting. LPVO is good if you are mostly mid range but have occasional need for close or if you expect a more even mix of close and mid range.

In my case I can’t focus on red. Idk if it’s the astigmatism or another condition. I’m running optics with green reticles on 2 guns. The current project is more of a DMR kinda setup so looking at an lpvo with green illumination. A green dot rmr at 45 is an additional option

I shot archery competively for a long time. I learned a green fiber pin was my clearest option especially with magnafied optics. Red is always a hazy starburst, I would loose Amber, and blue washed out in bright light. Green is my go to but not a lot of optics offered in green

I have a couple burris items that are green and red. I like the green. I have a Vortex range finder that is red illumination only which is a bummer. But its not as critical as scope optic

Magnifiers in practice are a great form of PID for situations that involve going outside to inside and vice versa. It’s not something that’s needed for any practical shooting.

Same can be said about a LPVO, however, the LPVO gives you the benefits of a scoped optic where you can use the reticle and further distances, AND be able to use the 1x at closer distances…but in practice this is not as useful as a RDS at legitimate close range.

RDS are better for both eyes open, and vast situational awareness, where are a LPVO, you’re still confined to an eye box even a 1x and in general even the shooting picture (fov) isn’t as extensive as a RDS. It makes for poor practice in actual CQB as a practical example.

Cool sight I’ve been looking for magnification for this one though. I’ve kinda settled on the Swampfox arrowhead 1-10 with the green reticle but still staying open minded as I haven’t ordered yet

Plain and simple for me I like using iron sights at close distance just feels natural and reliable I was shooting the other day with a buddy and needed the extra magnification but also want to maintain my close shooting with irons. This if I put on a scope I couldn’t use my irons. That’s the reason for red dot and irons. Plus you don’t have to use red dot with irons but I do have them cowitness.

100% agree. I run both and find LPVOs too cumbersome. My main setup I run an eotech and magnifier, 95% of the time I’m in 1x. Anything under 500yd is 1x easy. After 500yd, the magnifier is great for target ID. Flipped to the side, it doesn’t get in the way, you maintain good situational awareness. Even when it’s flipped out of the way, I cant the gun and use it as an instant 3x monocular. Or hell just quick detaching it and using it as a monocular I’ve done many times too. Plus it looks cool and if you don’t look cool then what are you even doing?

    Yeah.
I don't know how you guys can see anything beyond 100 yds without some magnification. I don't have perfect eyes, but they aren't bad either. A 2 MOA red dot will cover 2 inches of target at 100 yds, and a whopping 10 inches of target at 500. That's like as big as the damn target. I'd be lucky just to locate an 8" target at 500 yards without some magnification. I find a little magnification doesn't seem to hurt at closer ranges, but I don't do any competitions where I would prove myself wrong. I grabbed a couple of Burris 3x magnifiers for cheap when they showed up on Woot for half normal price, but I agree that they add weight and seem kind of clunky. The Burris mount is pretty easy to manipulate, though, and I find the magnification useful when sighting things in.

I'm thinking my next rifle optic will be this one: https://www.trijicon.com/products/details/ta01nsn. It's got backup iron sights that would be fine for closer range when the magnification becomes an issue. That's my theory, anyway. I'll move the Aimpoint to the 300BLK pistol and likely ditch the magnifier then since it wouldn't be useful beyond 100 yds anyway.

Im right there with you man 100 yards is steep for just irons. I mean i can do it but its far.

You know before the RCO came around, we used to qualify in the Marine Corps at 500m with iron sites…granted it was a 36 inch green target, but if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball…

I can hit steel at 500 with red dot only fairly easy once you get the holdover for the rds. I can hit significantly smaller steel with the 1-8 lpvo I added.

Agreed. I have a hard time sighting in at 50 anymore with no magnification. I’d need a magnafies optic just to find a target at 500
