Dang. So I'm guessing there goes those jobs. They still may have to maintain the building?

    Good morning fellow Pennsyltuckyvanians!!

I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for a new extension center for the college I worked at. Signing the lease last year was one of the last things I did before retiring as president. What an awesome job they did on the construction. It will be the new home for our Petroleum and Natural Gas Center as well as a full service location for certificates and degrees - located in Tunkhannock, PA. Turns out the husband of the new Center Director has a Tacoma and is here on TW - not sure if he's here in the PA group or not. She's a rock star who's worked for us for years in our business office. I'm totally impressed with what she's done already to get the center up and running. Great morning.

Crewed another hot air balloon flight last night. Two in a row...and hoping for another tonight, tomorrow night and Sunday night.

    Be safe out there!!

Good morning all and happy Friday!

We're still running short staffed here where I work. Pay and benefits are.....okay. Couple of issues though in that raises are almost unheard of here. We've had guys here go 7-8 years without a raise. Vacation time should be better too. Need to be here 15 years until you pick up a third week. I think if I'd been told that upfront when I started I'm not so sure I would have taken the position. On the plus side you can have off almost as much as you wish if you take it without pay. We had one guy take off 4 months to finish hiking the Appalachian Trail that he'd done half of many years ago. Side projects are allowed, sometimes even when on the clock if we're slow. No layoffs in almost 15 years. Fairly small family owned business. Shop has a gym and racquetball court plus an indoor pool which hardly ever gets used.

Besides the vacation time and wages/raises, benefits sound awesome.

It does have it's perks, just gets a little frustrating at times. Too often it feels like a case of the inmates running the asylum. After 8.5 years here I've still never had any type of employee review to discuss how I'm doing or anything of that nature. First world problems I suppose.

Yea , overall it doesn't seem that bad. But a job can have some of the best of the best benefits but that still doesn't pay the bills. U need good wages to live. It's when 2 jobs are within a buck or 2 then consider the benefits . Oh well someone let me know where the best of both worlds jobs exist.

Every job/occupation has its positives and negatives. I’m an hourly employee, no vacation, sick days or personal days. I make a great hourly rate, have good health care, pension, annuity and savings plan. It all depends on what you want to focus on IMO.
