Yes, unfortunately those things can happen. Management and safety never see it that way. But, hope they get him fixed up and back in there to help you soon.
Wonder what broke or splintered off. Part of pin or hammer head. Our safety department would be all over that trying to find out who, what, where why, and how YOU could have prevented it. Ugh..

Yeah my supervisor and I already had a discussion about it where we both kinda shrugged and went "we have Kevlar sleeves for handling the band saws and overhead welding... but requiring us to wear them whenever we swing a hammer just isn't happening."

Oh, no, no, that wouldn't be good at all having to wear those kevlar just to swing a hammer.
I've put them on to run this metal devil steel cutting circular saw, or required for some super giant temperatures around pipes and valves. They suck.

We wear them glassblowing too, for heat protection. Only if necessary though, they're itchy and most of the time we get away with just gloves

    2) rusty looking for a old Ford because he could really use another project to work on

A few years ago I drove 50 miles away to buy a truck, cash in hand. The lady didn't have the title, but if I paid her I could take the truck and she would mail me the title. Uhhh nope. Turns out she didn't have the title, never did.

She relisted it later on CL, I asked her if she had found the title yet.... no reply.:annoyed:

Stupidity..when I list I always answer promptly (even if it's just a "is it still available?"..person could be busy and just trying to connect fast).

I was selling a 3D printer and listed the Amazon and manufacturer links showing it is $250 plus shipping, showed mine isn't even an opened box and asking $175 firm for that reason. Guy tries to chisel me out of $25 and after I replied "I'm not looking to negotiate and have other action", someone else hit me up with full asking and cash right now. He got it. I replied to the first guy telling him it sold and he got mad. I laughed and said "well, you tried to grind me on the price, they didn't. For the sake of fighting me over $25 you can now spend an extra $100..ta ta for now!"

See, that I will do if the price is out of line in a polite manner. Sometimes they'll reply with a counter offer (makes sense) or not (oh well I'll buy it new). I always comparison shop before listing something to save time on negotiating, but I guess not everyone does.

Exactly, and this lady would have had to drive 2 hours round trip, passing 3 Walmart’s.

    Curiosity.....
I do have a 92-96 Ford or two.

The old F-250 has a 460 engine, largest gasoline engine ever put in a domestic light truck. :woot:

And it gets 7.5 mpg in town.:pout:

At my old job we had to have tanks inspected, the fellow had a unit that looked almost identical to a contact thermometer. A multi-meter size hand held with a contact probe on a cable.

He just held it against the tanks and in a few seconds it gave a reading.

We tested it with some pieces of steel stock - 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 - and it was dead on.

No, for NDT - I need to do some preliminary tests on our Sawyer-Massey traction engine boiler to determine just what the scope of repair is going to be.

I need to buy one, but I don't necessarily want to spend >$2K, since all I need is approximate measurements (+/- 1/32" is acceptable). Looking to figure out whether the cheapest Amazon/Flea-Bay unit will do that, or at what price-point I need to be at.
