That's awesome. If I didn't need my airbag switch these days I'd be interesting in doing this. Can never find a good place or device to mount the phone.

Absolutely! I'm just down in little ol Auburn, I had thought about Huntsville, but I like the smallish town life. And my job is awesome.

There's a bunch of guys up there who I'm sure would let you borrow an impact.

I used to tune into the bama thread more often but it just moves so fast. lol. Not to mention life just being busier than normal lately. Great group of guys in there though, for sure.

    Thanks!

Mine must have just been SEVERELY cobbed up. The motor seems to run WAY better. I cannot tell from the attachment but perhaps it downshifts more quickly when you romp on it which might explain why it seems "more responsive"?

Ya the 5vze makes peak HP at 4800 RPMs so when you're revving higher with ECT on you're taking advantage of more available power.

Original rack from previous owner was a rebuilt remanufactured and not OEM. It was leaking with lots of play in the center and had to go.
Steering Tie Rod Ends, Lower Ball Joints were also replaced with OEM.
    Steering is much crisper.
There is still a bit of vibration in the steering wheel at 65-70mph but not as pronounced. At this point I assume it is the tires. Even perhaps an old bushings I did not replace. Who cares. my Brand new tundra had the shimmy as so did 2017 Lexus GX. Something I just live with Yotas. Its not even that bad.
Tires balanced and laser alignment done 3 times.
Steering wheel had to be centered 3 times after the steering rack install. I am picky.
Busted rack had a dead spot in the steering before. It was actually nice since the truck was not so responsive on the freeway. Now it tracks straight, however you can change lanes like a race car. Very dialed in steering. I might ask my alignment shop to dial in so it is less responsive. I like lazy driving.
Here are the pictures of the carnage.

Me as well, I just can't keep up, like 10 pages a day.

If you're ever down this way let me know, I'd love to check out the truck.

I was so tired watching my mechanic do all the work. Let me tell you. Hard hard work running my mouth while he was working.

Did you purchase the steering rack with the control arms as a kit from Toyota. I read somewhere on here that you could get the steering rack and tie rods together for around 500 from Toyota but Im just seeing the steering rack for that much or more. Even through a discount Toyota parts website. Care to share if you found a decent price somewhere? Thanks for sharing the progress looks good.

McGeorge Toyota has the rack and inner tie rods (I believe) for a little over $500 online

I wonder if Cerakoting these would help with the wear, figure its just anodized currently so not real protection...

I picked up the 1/2" drive dewalt impact, Ill never go back to air again. Picked up the 3/8" later too. Absolute beast, and the 4 amp hour batteries last forever too

Picked up a set of ProComp A/Ts in 265-75r16 size on some old 4runner 16 wheels, pre-derped. The set was a little more than you'd probably pay in CA, but the tires are pretty fresh - still have all the whiskers - and I'm tired of waiting for a better set here in central IN, where they come few and far between. I can get late model Taco wheels all day, but with the big backspace. My factory wheels were corroding, and the 31x10.50r15 Kumhos were already 10 years old. It's probably all in my head, but they seem to ride much nicer.

Thanks everyone for the help with this. I was able to get the staked nut off with my 1/2” Ryobi impact. I hadn’t bothered trying it initially because I didn’t think it would be able to handle it, but it proved me wrong today.

After I changed the front driveshaft seal, I checked the back and it looked fairly new and also wasn’t leaking so I decided to just leave it for now.

Also installed the poly carrier bearing. I’m curious to see how this performs vs the standard replacement. I do have a new Timken CB on the parts shelf just in case I don’t like the poly one.

It will be interesting to hear how that IEDLS bearing does. Looks like it sits a bit lower than the stock one.
